anyone excited about webOS stuff?

im a little disappointed at the android stuff out there, a lot of it is really junky and buggy and i have pretty much decided not to buy anything available now. im hoping the hp tablets with webOS will be a more polished alternative to ipad. they look pretty cool (http://www.netbooknews.com/18843/hp-webos-tablets-shipping-next-month/) although im sure theyll be expensive. anyone else pining for webOS tablets?

yeah theyve fallen behind in releasing products but their os is certainly competitive. im hoping that this delay means theyre working really hard on the stuff theyre announcing in a few days. hp usually designs beautiful products, the palm brand wont be tainted by all the garbage tablets that have tainted android

I have no problem with the fact that their spec sheet isn't as impressive as some of the android offerings. It isnt needed.

I would love to try out webOS, more so than Win7.
They just need the hardware to accompany the software.
Put out a 4" phone something like the Galaxy line and I will try one.
I'm a phone freak.

I had a Pre and loved the OS. If they can get that OS onto good hardware at comptetitve price points they will be able to compete.

Palm needs to do like Google and let it out free or dirt cheap. Otherwise they cant compete. They are too late to the market and theres nothing special about them. It doesnt feel like the old Palm OS so they already lost their legacy customers. Its not as pretty as iOS and its not open like Android. Microsoft just came out with something new so people will be frothing over that for a few more months.

And as already pointed out many times, their hardware cant compete either.
They better have something bigger than just a tablet this year, cuz thats nothing special and neither is their OS.

I ended up grabbing a new "used" unit from someone for a great price. Mine is the original Palm Pre and I dont know why people complain about the hardware. I never get any stutters and very rarely does it slow down. If it did, overclocking it to 1ghz is literally 3 clicks away. I had it overclocked for a couple days, but it just wasnt needed. After having owned the Pre, I find it very hard to use Apple products, they just seem so out of date and clunky in comparison.

Palm/HP's business model isn't like Google's, they don't data mine like Google, they'd do better to copy Apple's and provide a great product with timely updates and cover multiple price points. HP has the deep pockets to pull this off, but tradtitionally they put out a half assed effort and don't support it that well after the sale.

im surprised that more people arent bothered by the fact that android is supported by google's advertising activites. i think there's plenty of room for another polished commercial platform like palmos in addition to ios&windows. most people just want their phones to work as expected, they dont care about sucking extra features out of them esp if they come on a rough, buggy platform like android. i love hp products, they usually have some of the best designs and in the last few years, have been priced pretty competitvely, although i bet those palmos tablets will be expensive ($700?), at least at first. they probably deserve it given the low level of quality of most of the android tabs

yeah it depends on exactly what they come up with and when. but i dont think theyve missed their chance yet. a year from now all 5 platforms will be polished and fully featured and android will no longer have the feature edge. also even though android is free, palm and windows phones are cheaper.

I miss Web OS but would not trade my EVO in for anything else currently out there for any OS. The funny thing is that I mainly miss the interactions more than anything else. I loved swiping left and right across different 'windows' and swiping them away when done. It just felt so much more interactive than Android (and I assume iOS as well).

Yea hardware-wise I think I would like to see a larger screen, and some different compositional materials. Also, a software keyboard wouldn't go amiss.

I can't wait till Feb 9th to see what they have to offer on the tablet and new phone. Sprint's 1 year upgrade was burning a hole in my pocket, but i still havent switched to Android. Android is too much of a learning curve to do less, in my opinion. I have a spare Sprint Pre (after i switched a Verizon Pre Plus to Sprint) and i tried a beta of WebOS 2.0. I have to say it works great, even on the first gen hardware. I'm a WebOS fanboy, HP just needs to advertise it right so everyone knows what the hell it can do.

You can't please everyone. I certainly dont see a bar of soap, I prefer the shape of the pre to most other phones. I've also never found myself desiring a bigger screen.

Just enough to make it succesful.

I loved WebOS when it first came out - compared to competition at the time, the Pre was actually an awesome phone. Keep in mind, its competition was basically the iPhone 3GS, the G1, and the Blackberry Tour. However, being Sprint exclusive, and an absolutely horrendous marketing campaign, really hurt its initial adoption.

Then, you take that with a woeful lack of development for the next two years, and here we are. WebOS hasn't improved much in that time frame, and the Pre2 is barely an improvement - really, its what the Pre Plus should have been.

If HP pours some resources into it, and releases some solid hardware, it could still have a shot, but unfortunately, I'm not holding my breath.

I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised with what HP has to show next week. My launch day Sprint Pre is slowly dying (after being dropped god knows how many times) and I'm going to need to get a new phone soon, so I've been anxiously awaiting what's next. I think HP realizes after all this time has passed that they need to hit a home run on this one or it will indeed be too late to get back in the game.

I'd expect to see a couple of new phones plus 1 or 2 variations of the PalmPad (or whatever it's going to be called).
