Some new twists that are different from the original. We see the first "traitor" already. They are really going pretty fast with the storyline compared to the original.

I wanted to watch it, but they are doing local elections tonight in eastern NC and the station has the program in a little box with election results all around the screen. It like watching a 15 inch screen on a 42 inch. Guess I'll wait till it shows up online.

I know they are doing 4 episodes this month then nothing till march 2010 because of the winter olympics.

Our local station here did the results from time to time along the bottom, took up no more than 10% of the vertical screen real estate. It pissed me off, and was like "it's not even 1% reporting. I DON'T CARE!!!" but alas was able to continue watching the show. Was scared for a minute because they interrupted the commercial break with full screen coverage, I don't think I missed anything when they stopped, TV show came right on but they may have timed it to just eat up commercials. Nice of them to do that if that's the case.

There's an official thread already for the premiere episode. Zim will always take that honors. :beer; for him. :)

But, wanted to comment on one thing:

From the preview I will say this: It has the quality of a made for TV movie.

Take that as you will.

Other kind of retarded things are:
1. Why would a jet fall from the sky, while cars are zooming around just fine.
2. Why was the lady not let past the 'police line' when random people were casually strolling around on either side in the backgroud.

The second one kinda annoyed me. Like they needed to make up a cheap way to inject some kind of authority tension where one didnt exist. I really hope the quality starts to go up for that kind of tripe.

#1: seems plausible that the Visitors either did that on purpose (what the hell happened to the pilot?! ejected pilot seemed either dead or unconscious, unlikely in a normal jet suddenly fails and pilot ejects situation... leading me to believe there is something more sinister)... OR, could simply be the jets were closer to the incoming ship versus the cars on the ground. Big ships coming into the atmosphere = immediate military presence, fighters likely nearby. All that seems very natural to my military-focused mindset, and while I don't expect it, I would love for them to add some depth to that at some point - show why the jet pilot seemed to be dead.

#2: No one in, no one out. That seems very basic and common, but dig deeper and there is still questions and I agree. I think the goal of that scene was definitely an authority image, and I completely forgot about that when making a conceptual guess of the series in the premiere episode thread: I expect there is going to be a big focus on government and people and the reactions of both to events that happen, a lot of humanism involved but also a lot of authority, and authority issues.

The teen angst angle does greatly annoy me but it is also accurate for what seems to be happening; teen angst naturally fuels a lot of spite against authority, and does pave way for teens to devote themselves to something very inviting even if socially unacceptable. And I find his thinking in line with mine - smoking chick playing the role of the tease on the other side... sign me up. :laugh; Until the whole lizard thing comes up, then I'm running and screaming and probably being brutally murdered.

Great, sounds like they are taking a page from Fox to ruin a show by
showing a few episodes and then taking forever to show anymore and then blame the crappy ratings on the show and cancel it.

Not bad, I'll give it a shot. I really like the original 'V' although that may just be nostalgia talking.

It's very strange. When they originally announced the show it was supposed to start next year. Then they moved the first 3 epi's up and added a HUGE break.
I don't think 3 epi's are enough to get you interested enough to wait that long.
Unless the show is a ratings knockout I think its 3 and done.
And if they third epi has anything that could be considered a finale.....

I thought this as well but then I remembered that many people watching this will know the Visitors are bent on doing us harm, are mammel eating reptiles, and are trying to fool us. So they can skip most of that and get to the more interesting moral and ethical conflicts that arise between and withing both human and visitors. For me what makes this sci-fi premise interesting is the following question...

Are we looking for salvation (i.e. a quick fix) from outside or do we believe in ourselves enough to not be fooled by false or would be Gods?

If they keep that main theme intertwined in the weekly episodes then I think this series can be great.

Fixed for my opinion.

Oh, and would someone just kill the FBI agents son. He is just annoying.

Lazy Hollywood for you, easier to do a remake than something original....

Damnit. Nashville decided to move this to the public channel because of a conflict with a local sports show. It showed up on the local channel as 'V' so I set up record a couple of nights ago. Came home last night to find that it had not recorded and realized when looking at next Tuesday that it went from 'V' to 'Nashville WX Programming'. Ugh. Was really looking forward to this.

BTW, the show they've chosen to air is the weekly Jeff Fisher/Titans show. I'm a huge Titans fan but that shit needs to be dealt with. The Titans suck so bad this year that show should be the thing moved to the public channel!

I posted about this in the other V thread.
ABC will have the epi online on Saturday, and of course its available, ahem, elsewhere.
And,yeah, they are, at this point, not going to show the first 3 epi's of V.
Big however, they have a secondary channel that not everyone gets and its on there.

Actually ended up watching the original miniseries a few weeks ago, before I even had any idea that a remake was coming out. I remembered loving it as a kid, and my fiance had never seen it.

Once you get past the terrible hair and some occasional bad acting, the original still stands up. And so far, I think the original is simply better - but theyre very different. The original was much slower paced, and the visitors were a very different breed. They werent all hot, they all wore a very distinctive red outfit, and had that swatstika-esqe flag everywhere. But they werent immediately viewed with suspicion.

The undertones of being occupied by friendly nazis, suspicion of science and organizing a resistance movement seem a bit more universally creepy than the remake's fear of terrorists and attractive leader who promises universal health care. It's trying so hard to be culturally relevant that it's a bit over the top and letting the actual story about lizard aliens take the back seat. When I was a kid, the social commentary went way over my head, but the actual story about the aliens was still compelling enough. Here, theyre merely being used as a backdrop.

But it was still interesting enough that Ill keep watching.

i liked it. it wasn't the best but there's not a whole lot of other sci-fi to watch now it seems, maybe stargate.

Yah man that's what ticked me off. I knew it was on the secondary channel and it actually showed up on the guide on the secondary channel. So, once I saw it in the guide, I went ahead and set up a series recording based on the name. Dumb move on my part as I should have set it to record a block of time.

Thanks for the online saturday heads up. I'll check it out then.

Surprised it was only a 1 hour premier. Figured it'd be 2 and then all of a sudden it was over.

SyFy has been running the originals all weekend as well. Those were fun to catch up on.

About to watch it and see. So when does the season actually start? Is this a teaser or something and it starts next year (if so that blows).
