I wanted to watch it, but they are doing local elections tonight in eastern NC and the station has the program in a little box with election results all around the screen. It like watching a 15 inch screen on a 42 inch. Guess I'll wait till it shows up online.
I know they are doing 4 episodes this month then nothing till march 2010 because of the winter olympics.
Our local station here did the results from time to time along the bottom, took up no more than 10% of the vertical screen real estate. It pissed me off, and was like "it's not even 1% reporting. I DON'T CARE!!!" but alas was able to continue watching the show. Was scared for a minute because they interrupted the commercial break with full screen coverage, I don't think I missed anything when they stopped, TV show came right on but they may have timed it to just eat up commercials. Nice of them to do that if that's the case.
There's an official thread already for the premiere episode. Zim will always take that honors. :beer; for him.
But, wanted to comment on one thing:
From the preview I will say this: It has the quality of a made for TV movie.
Take that as you will.
Other kind of retarded things are:
1. Why would a jet fall from the sky, while cars are zooming around just fine.
2. Why was the lady not let past the 'police line' when random people were casually strolling around on either side in the backgroud.
The second one kinda annoyed me. Like they needed to make up a cheap way to inject some kind of authority tension where one didnt exist. I really hope the quality starts to go up for that kind of tripe.
#1: seems plausible that the Visitors either did that on purpose (what the hell happened to the pilot?! ejected pilot seemed either dead or unconscious, unlikely in a normal jet suddenly fails and pilot ejects situation... leading me to believe there is something more sinister)... OR, could simply be the jets were closer to the incoming ship versus the cars on the ground. Big ships coming into the atmosphere = immediate military presence, fighters likely nearby. All that seems very natural to my military-focused mindset, and while I don't expect it, I would love for them to add some depth to that at some point - show why the jet pilot seemed to be dead.
#2: No one in, no one out. That seems very basic and common, but dig deeper and there is still questions and I agree. I think the goal of that scene was definitely an authority image, and I completely forgot about that when making a conceptual guess of the series in the premiere episode thread: I expect there is going to be a big focus on government and people and the reactions of both to events that happen, a lot of humanism involved but also a lot of authority, and authority issues.
The teen angst angle does greatly annoy me but it is also accurate for what seems to be happening; teen angst naturally fuels a lot of spite against authority, and does pave way for teens to devote themselves to something very inviting even if socially unacceptable. And I find his thinking in line with mine - smoking chick playing the role of the tease on the other side... sign me up. :laugh; Until the whole lizard thing comes up, then I'm running and screaming and probably being brutally murdered.
