I might have a sweet deal at an oil company (one of the big ones) around here making some decent bucks doing this job. However, they did keep asking me if I like going outdoors and fishing/camping (I like fishing alot) and I do enjoy doing stuff outdoors (being stuck in an office all day stinks). Anyone ever worked as a field engineer or did something similar? The money I would be making is really good for right out of college.

Sounds like a great job!! I love to fish and camp myself, and I can see where you would have alot of time in the wild with that job.

I work for a large oil company and I say go for it. It will look great on your resume, the benefits are pretty good, there is excellent stability and you can move around in the corporation if you get tired of that position. There are a lot of opportunities, especially at the larger integrated oil companies.

the money would be great... will you be working off-shore or on land rigs? i was interviewed for a F.E. position at schlumberger (but was ultimately turned down)... i think they try to sugarcoat the position.. you might be working as a roughneck (literal term for the position)... is this a full time job you are considering out of school?
