anyone ever use Spinrite to recover data from dying hard drive?

freezer trick did not work on my dying 200gig W-D drive so I borrowed spinrite from a friend.

seemed to be working at first (albeit very slowly, estimated it would take 22 days to complete!!) but then it kept trying to recover data at the same sector. (program didn't seem to be locked up but it was not making progress either, left it at that sector for over 2 hrs and never got past it)

Looks like it's time to find a data recovery specialist. And by freezer trick, please tell me you did not put a HD in the freezer...

Yes, that IS the 'freeze trick'. I haven't used it personally, but recommended it a couple of times to people that needed to do it, and it worked great for them.
