Anyone Ever Trap Skunks?

That's dumb. Even shitty potheads will know. There is a look that goes with a very strong smell.

...add some of that white sparkly christmas tree glitter, as well.

Yep. Just use the same sized havahart trap as you'd use for a cat. No, they don't spray if they're confined like that. We had a family of skunks that moved into and burrowed under a shed at my parents house. Every night when I got home from work, I'd knock on the door a few times while listening for scurrying. If I thought the coast was clear, I'd open the door & see if I had a skunk in the cage. Caught at least half a dozen. Then, it was the same ritual every time. Hop on my bike and carry the cage in one hand. I'd ride my bike over to the mall parking lot & release it near the main entrance. I was a kid - thought it was funny at the time. Heh heh, 30 years later, I still think it is.

Last year we had a family of skunks move in under our travel trailer. We used one of these to catch them: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...31-104632351-2

Baited it with Marshmellow fluff. Caught 9 skunks over 2 weekends that way.

Protip- once you catch a skunk, cover the cage with a blanket. For some reason this prevents the skunk from freaking out and spraying. We did this and managed to release all of the skunks we caught without anyone getting sprayed. Made for some fun moments with the kids.

A++ story, would read again. 😀

We have a horse barn and when the weather turns cold, we normally will get a family of skunks, possums, raccoons, or whatever living in the barn. Using a cage to catch them and then slowing draping a tarp or blanket over them is good advice, but better advice is to prevent them from making their home there in the first place. We purchased one of those chirpers, which is an electronic device that emits a high pitch chirp every 2 or 3 seconds. One brand is Bird-X. It makes it very uncomfortable for any critter to make a home nearby. It’s just an annoying sound. I’m told that you can also use a radio tuned to the RAP station. Our neighbor had a skunk problem (likely due to the skunks that left my barn) and after he caged them, he lowered the cage into his pond to drown the skunk. He didn’t want to transport the skunk and risk ruining his car (should the skunk spray) and animal control refused to pick up a caged skunk. Obviously I don’t advise this, but just thought I would throw it out there.

Came in to post, "I'm sure DrP has." Thread does not disappoint.

Don't they just come right back if you release them? We always just shot the skunks and raccoons we caught in the live traps.

over the years i trapped a lot of skunks with this trap and i've never had a problem.i hold a stick in front of the door and pull the bar and stand back and move the stick. The first time i did this i didn't use a stick and the door slipped out of my hand and the skunk came out and ran underneath me (i was crouched down) and kept on going

You may try calling your local department of wild life, they may have traps that you can use for free (may have to put a deposit down which is refunded when you return the trap).
