Anyone ever trade in a beater at a luxury car dealership?

My mom doesn't drive her '94 Quest (120k miles) much anymore, so she said I could sell it, trade it in, whatever.
There's a few dents here and there, some scratches on the paint, etc. but it's in otherwise great mechanical shape.
KBB says trade-in value is about $1900. I'd be happy to get $1000 out of it.

I want to trade it in for a TSX.

Think they'll laugh me out of their showroom?

QFT!

Luxury dealerships will not let junk disgrace their lot.

I've pondered this myself. My car isn't exactly in the best condition anymore. But I would rather trade it in than deal with the hassle of selling it. Will dealerships take just about anything?

absolutely.

They'll make money off you for the trade and the new car.

win/win for them.

Because they closed that loophole... Last year...

Now you can only deduct the amount the company you donate the vehicle to sells it for. And if you think that's anywhere near market value you're nuts. They don't care what they get for the vehicle, it's free to them...

Sure, they'll take anything. They'll even make you feel like you're getting something for the turd you trade when they are putting absolutely nothing in your old car. You could probably buy the car you want for the same prize as a cash deal.

Its not closed, just modified. I believe you only get as much as the donation gets sold for i believe. could be wrong on that. but i was under the assumption that as of this year, the tax exemption would not be the book value of the car but rather how much it gets sold for after the donation.

I don't see how it could benefit someone to donate it rather than sell it though... If I could sell it for $1500, I have $1500 in my pocket. If I donate it, I have $1500 * my tax rate, right?

Don't trade it in, sell it to CarMax. When I bought my TL, Acura offered me $5500 for my old car on trade in, I ended up selling it to CarMax for $7500. No hassles at all.

True, but selling a car is a hassle. And time=money.

Theyll make on offer on your trade and you will still pay the same amount for the new car.

My best friend had worked for dealerships for years. He used to get a kick out of it. And yeh. beaters and cars over a certain age go straight to auction. My friend picked up a Taurus SHO with 7k miles on it for an ungodly low price just because of age, even though it was showroom perfect.

I work at an Acura dealership. We'll take anything in on trade. If it's nice, we'll put it on the used car lot. If it's not nice, we'll wholesale it off.

Nice.

Any good deals on TSXs?
People seem to be getting them at or even below invoice.
