Anyone ever taken Cephalexin (antibiotic)

Dedpuhl

I am taking Cephalexin for an ear infection. A couple hours after I started taking it, my throat started hurting on the side w/ the infected ear. I looked on the precautions list and it doesn't mention anything about sore throats. I did a search on google and found sites saying that sore throats are a serious side effect of the med.

When looking at the other effects, they are all associated with a shutdown of the respiratory system (swelling of the throat, breathing difficulties, etc).

I will call my doctor in the morning, but I wanted to get an opinion or two from the board.

Could the sore throat, since it is only on the side w/ the infection, be a result of the antibiotics working? I am breathing normally and feel good besides the throbbing pain in my ear.

I don't think I'm having an allergic reaction. I am not allergic to penicillin and this antibiotic is very similar.

i would definately call your doctor if he has some type of pager or something and ask him about it.

oh I know that. I took it about 6 hours ago and do not plan to take it until I consult him first. I was just curious if anyone knew something I didn't.

like you said if you're not allergic to penicillin then you're probably not allergic to cephs either. antibiotics don't work all too fast, it could just be a sign of your infection getting worse before it gets better. though i dont think cephs have all too many serious side effects, best to call your doctor in the morning.
