Anyone ever stop wearing their retainers??

i just recently tried it on for a night and it was tight as heck and left my mouth really sore... it also left a nice blue spot on my right big front tooth which has been here for the past week no matter how hard i scrub it with toothpaste/pick and all. 🙁


anyhow, anyone know if it's okay to start wearing my retainers again or have they shifted too much and my retainers can only do worse to my teeth?
 
I've had mine off for probably 3 years now and I keep wearing my upper. I had a lower made but it was uncomfortable and I've never worn it.
 
i have permanent retainers on upper and lower, but they still wanted me to wear the other one. eventually my teeth shifted slightly because of the perm retainers, and the removable one didnt fit anymore. told them about it and they were basically like, screw it, dont wear it anymore.
 
I stopped wearing retainer like a couple days after i took off braces, and only wore it once a couple of weeks. Now I eventually stopped wearing them. Teeth doesn't even seem any crooked as when I was took them off. 🙂
 
I wore them for about a year after getting braces off & stopped. No ill effects, teeth are still straight better than a decade later.
 
Wore em for a couple months after I got em off. Still wear em from time to time, my teeth are slightly crooked when I don't wear them for long periods of time, though I doubt anyone would notice without a close inspection.
 
i have permanents on upper and lower, had them since i got the braces taken off about 6 years ago... i forget they're there, to be honest, and my teeth havent moved at all. its a beautiful thing.
 
I stopped wearing mine a few years ago. My teeth have moved a little, but not enough to notice. I can't get my retainer to go on now.

I sometimes stop for about a month at a time... it's mother-of-god tight when it goes back on, but only for about a night. So either my teeth are stretching the retainer or a few nights a month is enough to keep my teeth in line 😛

I have wires at the back of my front and back teeth, and I think they do most of the work.
 
i haven't worn mine for like, 4 or 5 years.. they were to be worn every night while i slept, take out durin day. me teeth did move a little bit but i dont really care.
 
Hahaha. Dude. Wear the retainers. You'll regret it later.

I stopped wearing mine for a while, my teeth moved so much that it was impossible to get them back on. I could get them in half way and be in completely misery.

Needless to say, what good the braces did was null after the damage from not wearing the retainer.

It's all good. I have fangs now.
 
i stopped a few months after i got my braces off and i wish i still had mine to wear... my teeth have really shifted and now i am thinking about getting another retainer to bring them back to where they were
 
Wear them pretty much every night since I got my braces off 2 years ago. Occassionally I'll not wear them, but not too often. Frankly, I'm too scared to stop wearing them... I love my teeth just the way they are and I never want to go back to being crooked.
 
After paying all that money, I sure as HECK am going to wear them. For those of you who stopped wearing them, did you pay for them yourself? After spending $3,000 to get my teeth straight, I will be wearing those retainers until I am SURE that my teeth won't move anymore.

Yup, ill be getting braces again because of what you described above.
 
had braces off for 5 years. I still wear my retainers every night, if I go 2 days without wearing them I'll develop a pretty nasty headache from my teeth beginning to move.

it sucks.

Retainers are what you wear after you have braces to keep your teeth in line once the braces are removed. Standard issue to every braces-wearing american.

Nope, didn't keep mine in after 2-3 months, now they don' fit but I don't care 😀
 
i never ever wore mine, and after 2 years of not wearing them, my orthodontist declared i had perfect teeth. (then again, this is the same guy who worked on chelsea clinton's teeth...hmmmm :Q)
