Anyone ever see the movie Glengarry Glen Ross?

Heard a lot about it... the refs to it in Boiler Room (:thumbsup::thumbsup: ) sortof make me want to track it down and watch it.

Any of you ever seen it? would you reccomend it?

I had it on when night when it was on Bravo, but I wasn't paying a lot of attention. I think if the language wasn't censored it would've been really sharp, since it's heavy on the dialogue.

I rented it, found it rather boring. But if you like the F word, then this movie's highly recommended. Pacino must've said fvck 50 times.

It's not so much about the storyline as the acting in this movie...just say that it's about selling houses and how to do it well 😛

It's about a group of sales types under a great deal of pressure. Pretty well-done, but a depressing story. Not really any action, just dialogue. Great cussing!

It's pretty good - the play won the Pulitzer Prize, actually. I saw GGR on Broadway when I was in my early teens, and the play is actually even funnier than the movie IMO, because they removed some of the best lines for the movie. In general, it's a very dark comedy/drama, with a great cast and script. Highly recommended.

LOVED Alex Baldwin's dialogue!!

I remember the movie being pretty good, and probably the only thing I could ever bear watching Baldwin in.

"Ohhhhh What a big man you are, let me buy you a pack of gum, I'll show you how to chew it..."

"My name? My name is Richard Roma"

We're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado.
Anybody want to see second prize?
Second prize is a set of steak knives.
Third prize is you're fired.

🙂

"PUT THAT COFFEE DOWN. Coffee is for closers. "

Ricky Roma: You stupid f***ing c***. Hey, Williamson, I'm talking to you, s***head. You just cost me $6,000. Six thousand dollars, and one Cadillac. That's right. What are you going to do about it? What are you going to do about it, a**hole?

Great movie for those two scenes alone, otherwise really boring. Boiler Room rips it off in every way. Affleck does a poor man's imitation of the Baldwin role.

"A, always. B, be. C, closing. Always be closing."

"This watch costs more than your car."

Great movie. There's an episode of Everyone Loves Raymond where he takes his girl to her girlscout meeting. They are talking about selling cookies and what the top seller wins. Troop leader says, "And second place is a set of stickers." Raymond looks up and says, "Third place, you're out of the troop." Classic stuff.

The actors, dialogue, and story are just fantastic. Very dry, sarcastic humour. As mentioned earlier, it's Alec Baldwin's best performance ever. I'd love to see the play. Mamet rocks.

Baldwin is a good actor....it's just the hollywood projects he chooses are not good. If you ever doubt his skill, go see The Cooler.

About half the simpsons episodes use the jack lemmon character from this movie. I enjoyed it but I do think it is a bit overrated. The acting is quite good for a mamet movie. But I guess he didn't direct it, so it's understandable.

I believe it's based on a play; it's really good. It's not an action movie, it's 100% diaglog driven. I'd recommend it.

It's about real estate agents.

Awesome movie!!!!

Not for everyone, but the dialogue is some of the best.

If you're interested in sales, you can get some great quotes from that movie.

Not to mention an allstar cast:
Al Pacino
Jack Lemmon
Ed Harris
Kevin Spacey
Alec Baldwin

Great acting.

Glengarry Glen Ross is probably the best movie about sales ever made (I really need to see the play someday). Boiler Room is poser junk in comparison.

However, if you don't know anything about sales, particularly high-stress real estate sales and the various personalities, then you might have difficulty following it. But trust me, it is perfect. The characters, the acting, just about all of it.

Their product is very shady. They are selling lots in as-yet-unconstructed real estate developments. Basically "florida swampland".
