anyone ever RMA a maxtor HD?

I have about 10 40g drives that i need to RMA, by looking at maxtors rma site, you can only RMA one drive at a time... what gives?? Is there a way to do more than 1 at a time?

im in the process of rma'ing a drive right now with maxtor and i have found their shipping and packaging expectations to be rediculous. if they refuse my rma because i didnt pack EXACTLY as they said to im gonna throw a fit. thier instructions are horrible and they expect your defunct drive to be packed like fine china!

I just got one back about a month ago. I did find their shipping packaging instructions a little rediculious especially since the drive is dead already. It just so happened that mine died about 4 weeks after I installed it and I hadn't gotten around to throwing away the box yet. Anyhow worked well for me got my replacement in less than a week.

I found western digital better for rma but I started buying maxtor because of the fluid bearing and the deals available at the time were better.

I RMA'ed a maxtor 30 gig hard drive about 2 years ago. I don't know how much their policies have changed since then, but I just wrapped the sucker up in bubble wrap and placed it in a cardboard box and tapped it up. They sent me another drive with no complaints at all. Hopefully things havent changed a whole lot.

I did the RMA process where they ship to you first and take your CC number. I completely forgot to RMA the dead drive back and was charged over $300 for an 80 gig hard drive. Nobody was to blame but me, but it was an outrageous price just a few months ago.

I do it all the time. Do an advance RMA repack your drive in the box they send you make sure you get it back to them ON TIME and you do not even need error codes simply say the software will not run on your machine and the drive is randomly clicking or the MBR keep getting messed up. I have done this maybe 15 times in the last 2 years. Never 1 question or denial.

P.S. you DO NOT need error codes to do an online RMA.

i rma'd a 3.1gb hd way back in the day, using the advance rma thing. they sent me a 4.2 gb drive, i sent them the 3.1, its all good. the 4.2 is still in use. the 3.1gb wasnt even mine 😉

more recently i rma'd an 80gb, and again had no problems.

also you dont need an error code. since i have an a7n8x, powermax wont work on my board (it doesnt like sata). i called them up and told them this, and explained the problem and they just rma'd it on the spot.
