Anyone ever received a used item at Best Buy?

And needed to return it? I bought an item that is missing manuals, parts and scratched to high heaven.

I am going to be super pissed if they blame me for this.

I think I remember that happening to me, but it's been awhile. My piss off is buying open box items, and they flat out don't work. No subtle errors, or anything like that. A monkey could tell it wasn't salable. They were always easy to return, but it's still a PITA.

When I was 16, I bought what I thought was a new digital camera (it was not marked used or returned) and found a block of wood inside the box instead of a camera. Best Buy refused to give me a refund, accused me of trying to scam them, and threatened the call the police on me.

My dad went back in a few hours later and got things sorted out for me. Apparently people don't trust a long haired 16 year old kid, but they do trust a well-dresssed 50 year old man. Go figure.

When you take it back dont act like an asshole. Asshole customers get much much worse treatment than those that try to be nice and understanding

Did you buy it new and find a used item inside or did you knowingly buy Open-Box?

I bought a "new" DVD player from BB and found somebody's wedding DVD in the tray.

The DVD player was fine though. Been serving me well.

I had something similar like that happen. This was back when LCD monitors were new on the market, I picked up a new Sony 19" HS95P that was several hundred dollars.

When I got back, it was nothing but 2 bricks inside. I was pissed. Fortunately I went back and explained the story 30 minutes later, they believed me and let me have a replacement.

Wth is going on with that scheme? It's messed up...

I cleaned up the fingerprints and grease, and only one quick start manual was missing. The scratches were on a protective film and the glass is flawless...so even though I am pissed, I'd be more pissed if I had to head back to take it back.

I wonder if it was taken out, solely to remove the quickstart guide, or to demo for someone. Works flawlessly that I've seen so far. I am not as pissed anymore.

It's clear that none of you have ever worked in an RMA dept for a corporation.

It sucked doing it, but yes, this happens often.

A similar thing happened to me, many years ago. I bought (what I thought was) an ATI Radeon 9200 gpu, but when I got it home, inside was a fried Nvidia card. The box's cellophane had even been resealed, so from the outside nobody could have known.

I took it back and raised hell, got the manager's name, etc... They wouldn't take it back nor give me a refund. I ended up having to call customer service at the BestBuy corporate office and they sent me out a gift card in the amount of my purchase.

I went and bought the same video card from Circuit City and insisted on opening it in front of a cashier while I told him my story. Later on I sold my gift card to a buddy of mine, and since then I try to give BB as little of my money as possible. I urge everyone else to do the same.

Yeah, I would initially be pissed like you were after spending that kind of dough. But like you, would be okay if everything worked and that was just the protective cover.
And if anything did happen, I'm sure you could explain that you did not receive the quick start guide.

Yes, although I'm not entirely sure if it was Best Buy or Circuit City now, but it was one of the two. 10 or 11 years ago, a co-worker friend bought a television. Got it home, opened the carton and there was a 10+ year old television in there. I mean old, it had dial knobs on it and was coated in dust. He took it back and they didn't believe him, threatened to call the cops if he didn't go away.

I did some RMA work for a defunct computer maker (AST Computers) and you would not believe what we would find in some systems. Ceramic Tiles in place of CPUs, board from other makers and other things.

That sounds like a typical Fry's trick...and is why I stopped buying components at Fry's.

I bought a portable stereo @ BB and it didn't have the remote in the box. I was very calm and wasn't acting like a dick. But they flat out said they couldn't take it and I would have to call the manufacturer. I turned from Bruce Banner into green brainhulk raising hell and yelling, calling for the manager. But even she wouldn't accept it.

I had to call up my friend who worked at a different best buy and he "inspected" it and took it back

Best Buy is only good for laptops games and movies. Everything else is overpriced.

Best Buy is usually pretty good with returns.

When buying an open box item, you can ask to see it first. They'll open it up for you to take a look see.

That wouldn't have helped with my open box issues. One time I got a VCR that wouldn't accept tapes, but otherwise looked fine, and the other time it was a 5.1 speaker system that looked great, but the .1 didn't work.

Doesnt matter how he acts. Its Best Buys fault and they need to fix it regardless of how the customer acts. Its the law. Used item for a new price means false advertising.
