Anyone ever plant bamboo as a barrier

Another vote for horrible idea.
I have seen a few backyards that were overrun with it.

Throw dog treats at them every day and they will shut up.

I feel for you man.
I know how annoying it is to have neighbors with annoying dogs.
Luckily my current neighbor's dogs are 10+ yo labs who are mellow.

Yea don't do it. Took my MiL 2-3years digging it up every summer to get it out of our backyard. Still have to dig some up that comes back from neighbors yard and street from time to time.
Wait...

You get your mother in law to dig your garden?

Win!

Send her round to mine please.

Bamboo can be a beautiful barrier if you are willing to accept the risks of planting it. A neighbor down the street has a thin "hedge" of it with stalks at least 4 inches wide and 30 feet tall. They must have put a lot of work into "managing" the growth of it.

I personally planted Bamboo in my yard and it got out of control. Only after hours of toil attacking the roots with a mattock did I ultimately prevail.

I have bamboo but it's in a space enclosed by a wall.
Also it didn't grow tall very fast although it does spread laterally. Still much faster than a tree ofc.

It's very nice as a barrier.

Maybe you could ask your neighbour to let you get to know his dogs and ask for permission to throw them treats proper for dogs.

Of course this won't work if he's a junkie or someone who mistreats his dogs.

Like a lot of plants, bamboo comes in many varieties. Plant the wrong kind and you'll have it running all over your yard and potentially making a mess if it isn't properly contained at the time of planting. Plant a different variety and you'll have a beautiful, fast-growing, evergreen plant that makes the perfect hedge or border and doesn't spread all over the yard. Just read about the varieties. I've had bamboo planted at my house for years and it's my favorite plant.

Do you remember what species you planted?

Our neighbor has a bamboo wall, and while it hasn't actually managed to grow in our yard (almost no soil anyways), we do get a shitton of leaves from them.

it's going to end up all over the place. My neighbor put that crap in her yard and now she's at war with it. I think it's growing in her hair.

yea nay on the bamboo

They do make Ivy fences.

That's fugly.

Throw meat or dog treats at the dogs for a few weeks and they will stop barking at you.

Unless they are the stupidest of chihuahuas or other dogs of low intelligence.
