Anyone ever plant bamboo as a barrier

If it's on a neighbor's side, is that dick move? Would the bamboo also take over his yard too? Basically they have a fence that borders our property and 3 yappy dogs that bark like the devil when I get home. I figure a wall of bamboo along their fenceline could resolve the issue but might be a dick move. Plus the dogs might still bark anyway.

Id be so pissed off if some stupid neighbor did this. Bamboo is RIDICULOUSLY invasive. Depending on the species, bamboo could grow inches per day. If you plant this along a fence line, you will regret it too as your yard gets invaded (as well as your neighbor's). I dont know the weed status but some are most likely listed as noxious weeds subject to control and you subject to fines for cultivating their growth. Build a fence if you want privacy. Or plant a row of shrubs

It grows like a son of a bitch. If you aren't willing to deal with work, I wouldn't do it. Of course, more bamboo=less grass. I'd consider putting it up my place if I didn't have so many trees.

So it would grow baby shoots under his fence, right? Yeah, I don't want to invade his yard if possible so that would be a dick move.

I'll just look for some fast growing shrubs that aren't invasive.

Yea don't do it. Took my MiL 2-3years digging it up every summer to get it out of our backyard. Still have to dig some up that comes back from neighbors yard and street from time to time.

FYI, black bamboo is nothing like the more common golden bamboo. much less invasive.
I got a huge bunch of it that was being thrown away, probably 10 years ago. I split it up with the excavator and planted it along a fenceline a few feet out for the same reason as the OP. It has not filled in and has only put a couple of shoots into the fence itself.
Golden bamboo is the stuff you need to put a concrete trough around, seriously. It is crazy.

That crap will take over. IIRC, you need a 3' hard plastic barrier to keep the roots contained.

loropetalums. You can get ones that grow different heights. 3' ish, 6' ish, the size of a house ish.

Our neighbor planted a bunch of bamboo near our shared fence to give his backyard some privacy but this shit keeps popping up in my yard. It grows through the weed barrier and through the decorative rock. It is a constant battle to keep it from taking over my side yard. I hate this shit.

Yeah, some bamboo just clumps up into clusters and doesn't sendout lines of clones in every direction, filling up a space. Instead, you get cool, thick bamboo that arranges in a clump.

you would be better off planting kudzu

don't f with bamboo
lol

This is kudzu.

Bamboo is worse.

it is a grass, and the black bamboo behaves just like a clump grass as you describe. It is spreading, but if I did not watch my step I would kill anything not in the main bunch. It acts like Pampas grass.

Some guy who lives alongside one of our rail trails here did that. To be honest it looks like shit. It's a tangle of stalks leaning every which way.

People say it can be invasive, but I don't buy it. I have 3 species of bamboo at my house and yes in the spring it tries to spread, but I have a special secret that I am hesitant to reveal. I have to mow my lawn every week and when nobody is looking I mow over any shoots that may have come up and suddenly they are gone. They only send up shoots for a few weeks in the spring unless you live somewhere that does not have a cold winter. In the spots that are bordering flower beds at my house I do actually cut the rhizomes underground on the edge so they die.
