Anyone ever paint their laptop?

Just wondering if anybody has ever painted their laptop. I thought it would be cool to have a laptop that's a nice Ferrari red or yellow or something. I'm guessing the warranty would be void if I did that, so I'm thinking whether it's worth it or not.

If I were to do it, what kind of paint would I need? Any pointers? Any websites that show how to do it?

I think you need car pain. A friend of mine paints them, so far I have seen him paint 2 and he does a heck of a job. I think you have to completely open up your lappy, paint the outside panels and then reassemble.

remember the scene from "Meet the Parents" where the wood stall goes in flames?? Spray paint ignites easily.

Look for spike's modding thread on notebookforums.com (Dell Section)

I would recommend you buy a spare chassis for your laptop and then paint that..... If anything goes wrong, you are not COMPLETELY screwed....

Moreover... you can still retain your warranty, if you are smart,

I painted mine a few months ago. Well is was only the palm rest and the logo on top. I used automotive paint from Canadian Tire. It was factory touch up paint in a spray can. First I sanded it all down with 200/400/600 grit sandpaper (IIRC). Then used some plastic primer (white) from a spray can. Next I applied about 7 coats of the paint and 7 coats of clear. Let it dry and re-assembled. I think it turned out ok...the paint was the closest I could find that matched my truck not exact however.
