anyone ever order somethign from Bowflex?

QueBert

I placed an order and was approved for credit thru them on the 23rd, as of today the order has been processed but not packed or shipped, just pulled. The CS chick I spoke to on the phone said it should be sent out withing 5 more days. I take it from their infomercials they should be a good sized company, and they charge a damn arm and a leg. 12 days before a product ships is teh suxs. I called to upgrade to the new 1090's since the order wasn't packed yet and she told me that would add another 3-4 weeks.

Maybe they operate on a built-to-order type of inventory system, increasing lead times?

fell for what? I got a good deal once they threw in free shipping and a bench I got the Select Tech's for about the same price as the Powerblocks which I didn't like the looks of. To each his own 🙂

I bought a bowflex once... it sucked so bad... and was so expensive. I used it for 10 days and returned it for a cheaper plate based machine for half the cost.

Bowflex's are not for the hardcore. The resistance throughout the range of motion (what little range there is) is not equal.

Bowflex's are good for maintaining.. but not for the hardcore looking to put on some serious muscle mass. You can believe the commercials if you want to.. but they are purely BS

Bowflex isn't as bad as people make it out to be. There were some at my university gym, and i checked them out. They're ok. Yes, i myself prefer to have a cage, bench, and olympic weights, but sometimes you just don't have the room for it... or the convenience of going to the gym daily.

Well I ordered the Select Tech's, which are dumbbell's, I don't much like the resistance thing. I looked at all the free weight dumbbells and the Select Tech's looked like the best overall, even if they cost a pretty penny.

you're right Flyback, I should cancel my order for something I spent weeks researching to find the exact thing I wanted. I said the shipping time sucks not the product man 🙂

aah.. ok 🙂

Those 1090's look like a nice set. An adjustable set of dumbbells, from 10 lb through 90 lbs.. all-in-one , without the cluttered mess on your gym floor. I'd actually consider these mysef (and this is coming from a previous, Bowflex owner/hater 😛)

You say it "cost a pretty penny", but have you priced regular dumbbells? They are about the same price, so the all-in-one, adjustables make sense, if you have limited space.

I like how people immediately knock Bowflex without even knowing what product he was purchasing. Really devalues the opinion because it makes it sound more gut reaction than logical.

actually jlbenedict I was going to get the 1090's but the CS lady on the phone told me they were on back order and it would take another 3-4 weeks to get them. I know I'll probably regret it but I got the 552's + 3.1 bench + stand. And I did price dumbbells, I know the Select Techs claim to replace 16 sets of dumbbells, but who needs 16 sets? Without pricing regular ones, I'm sure it would have been considerably cheaper to get standalone dumbbells for the weights I want. They threw in a "free bench" and with tax and shipping I still paid almost $700 bucks, Bowflex is far from the best deal in town 🙂 If they had the 1090's in stock I would have paid like $940 shipped, ouch.

to skace, Bowflex is the Thermaltake of the workout world. You see 2 opinions "worse sh!t ever!" or "I couldn't live without my Bowflex" I never see people with middle opinions. Amazon's reviews are proof, half of them give it 4-5 stars (what I ordered) and the other half give it 1-2 stars.

Yeah, but everyone else is telling you the product sucks.

UPDATE (might help anyone thinking of ordering from Bowflex)

The order I placed on the 5/23 shipped 2 days ago, well according to Bowflex's site it shipped but I still have no conformation email with the UPS tracking number so it could be on the way to my house or it could be on the way to the UPS station or maybe it's still waiting for UPS to pick it up. Overall I'm not thrilled with having already waited 14 days for something I dropped close to $700 on. Assuming it's actually been picked up by UPS I might have it by friday, if not I'm looking at 19 days, and I didn't order something obscure or so new they didn't have it in stock yet. I ordered the crap from the commercial. I've ordered stuff from overseas with faster turn around times 🙂

those were the 220's, the 552's are the bigger ones. Hell Amazon has the 220's for $99 I was about to jump on them until I saw they were 20lb's each. The cheapest I've found the 552's were 349, I wanted to get a bench + the stand and Bowflex gave me credit so it's cool.

I did see the 552's on Ebay for 2 bills but the shipping was like 200 bucks 🙂

Amazing, UPS delivered them today finally, and he came first instead the end of his route, said he didn't want to be unloading 200lb's of big boxes at 6 I don't blame him 🙂

the stand is nice, the bench is uhh a bench *shrug* weights are bad ass, big as hell. Up to 58 lbs each, I'm a very out of shape slob so I'm guessing 58lb's should last me for awhile. the book that came with it is suggesting I eat a bagel with cream cheese and 1 glass of OJ for breakfast. That's a light snack for me. But if I follow this guide they included I will "see results in 10 weeks" I'm 5'11 about 205, don't know what a realistic goal is but a dude in the book put on 4lb's of muscle in 10 weeks. I don't have the highest hopes for myself but who knows haha.

not to be mean but when i read this comment I actually LOL.

go ahead be mean, I have thick skin any ways, I paid waaaay too much for these, but I could have wasted 700 bucks on a new wiz bang video card. I figure even if I paid too much these can help me get into shape, can you put a price on being healthy?

and I looked at the Powerblocks for any of the P.B. fans, I think they're pretty fugly and not really any cheaper. And no, I don't need to have "up to 160lb's" on one dumbbell that's too much friggin weight!

What exactly is your goal? If it's to put on muscle mass then the most important thing you do is maintain a proper diet. And do you have a workout routine in mind?

In my opinion, that $700 is better spent on a gym membership and dietary needs (like protein, which is cheap in itself). You can do a lot with dumbbells, but not everything.

I want to get big arms and a chest, not really worried about anything else, I have a friend Matt he's an inspiration. Worse diet then me (if that's possible haha) he eats hot dogs and drinks beer, but he has big guns. I am going to alter my diet, hopefully I can get results like he got, took him forever but to be ripped and eat like sh!t is pretty impressive.

and as for the dumbbells not doing everything, exactly. I also have a Slamman boxing machine and an Ez Glider, so I can work on my Cardio.

Although you're not concerned with legs doesn't mean you can neglect them. Your legs contain huge muscles and by working those it really helps you body get into more of a "growth mode". Squats would be an excellent thing to do, one of the best exercises you can do, and one of my favorites.

-- well at least that's my understanding, but I could be wrong.

I should say I'm not going to focus on my legs, but everything will get a work out, I'm following the 6 week guide they included to a Tee as they guarantee results if you do. I did some squats eariler with 40lb of weight I felt the burn pretty quick 🙂
