No, I have not moved there, but after being there a few times to look at NYU, I know I wouldn't like it there...It's so different from cali..some parts of it is more "run-down" I might say..The traffic is bad, unorganized..The subway is dirty..Housing is expensive..in the end, I decided I would prefer to stay in so-cal..

My friend moved from NY to Cali.
He says he likes NY better.. but then it is a matter of personal preference.

My boss moved to Portland from NYC. He likes it better here. Lower cost of living and nicer people.

I moved out there for school and moved back recently. NYC sucks for a student. Everything is expensiive. If you have a job lined up, it will be better. Remember, can't drive there, it snows often, weather changes everyday. Dirty, living expenses are costly. So Cal is paradise. But what i miss is Joe's Pizza.

I did, and NY sucks compared to Cali. Everything's more expensive and the weather is garbage, everything's dirty, and the city itself is cramped and claustrophobic.

assuming you're talking about nyc, it's not for everyone...most that move here and ultimately move out can't get used to the cost of living, the nyc "attitude" and/or the fast-paced lifestyle (people, deadlines, standard of living, etc)...

i've spent time in texas, utah, california and some other states, and i can understand where people are coming from when they say they can't stand nyc...the lifestyles outside of nyc are much more relaxing and less stressful...i got used to it very fast...it took me a little bit of time to get used to the nyc pace again when i moved back...

AZ to DC. Well, in all fairness, it is a secondary example (AZ is almost CA, and DC is almost NYC).

I was born in Arlington, VA; lived in Mesa, AZ for a while; now living in the District proper. My piece of advice - unless you need the job/school/whatever, stay out West. Or at least south of the Potomac. Or maybe Delaware. Wait, where was I going with this...

Yeah, NYC is not for the claustraphobic. I've had to go up there several weekends; rule 1 - US Airways is infinitely better than Amtrak; rule 2 - don't go if you like peace, quiet, or space.

Yeah, no kidding. I'm living in Los Angeles, and it's the first time I've ever seen bullet-proof glass at the grocery store, dealers on neighborhood corners, the freaking highways are parking lots, expensive housing, and the subway is either non-existant or useless. What's the diff??

I've lived in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Arizona, Oregon, Okinawa, Taiwan, the Philippines, and now California (Santa Barbara, Oxnard, and LA). I quickly noticed how Californians can't even conceive of a world outside their own state, and I don't understand it... but anyway.

I've vistited NYC twice, and it was okay. I liked the subway and the city because it seemed convenient. I know two people who lived in NYC before moving to LA. Both were foreign-born and only went to NYC for school. Both preferred NYC to LA. *shrug*
