Anyone ever known you were going to lose your job....

....and couldn't wait for it to happen?

I've known for a couple weeks that I'm getting let go and I can't wait for it to happen. Am I the only one who's ever had this?

Not so far but I've only had 2 jobs. I saw someone who was let go at my current job who should have seen it coming but they didn't warn her.

So are you using this opportunity to abuse your job in any way shape or form to get something out of it before you go?

I'm not sure about the future of my job. It's scary, but if I do lose it, I think I'm going to just go to school full time and get my degree. There aren't many jobs in my industry around here. Too bad I own a house...

I knew me and another guy were gonna be the first two to get laid off when our company was in a real slump in the summer of 09. I had only been there full time for 6 months, and the other guy was a complete moron. I think they only laid me off with him so he wouldn't raise a fuss about being the only guy laid off when he had been there for a few years, cause I got hired back 2 weeks later

Yup. Hynix.

I wasnt doing so well on the night shift but didnt want to quit because of unemployment benefits. Also I knew the industry was hurting and there would probably be layoffs eventually.
I was right.
Got let go months before everyone else and had an easy time finding a new job. Everyone else was struggling and competing for work.
They actually did me a favor by canning my butt.

Yeah I had it happen once. It was awesome, cause I knew it was coming and I wanted it to happen, I hated the owners so much. So I kept pushing it seeing how far I can go till eventually they had to get rid of me before they could get a replacement 😀

I know someone who just went through this. Sounds pretty common actually, once you know its over you just want to move on to the next stage. Sitting in limbo is never fun.

Do have anything in the backburner? Plans, backups, etc?

I stopped making plans a long time ago.

I have a lot of things I would like to do. I really want to commit to the drug/alcohol counselor thing. I gave up on it last time to take this job.

All the time working construction.

From the first day, you're working to put yourself out of work...

MOST of the time, as things started getting short, I'd be on the phone lining up the next job...sometimes having to quit the one that was ending...which usually saves someone else's job for a short time...but after a long job, I always wanted at least two weeks off to catch up on my sleep...and get stuff done around the house.

Hope you find a new, better job soon OP. I've been going through the "better job" part of the cycle for over a year now and I'm still not very happy with the situation. Best of luck.

You really never know if you are going to lose your job. Sometimes it comes slowly, other times it's a quick surprise. The main reason why I'm building enough savings to get cover being unemployed for about 2 years. I figure if I save enough to match my net income, then any unemployment, severance, and cut backs will only be a bonus.

You never just quit without having options. I think most people that have been fired or laid off can tell that it is going to happen? So you exercise your options. First be proactive, update & send out your resume and in a major way. Second, if you lose the job & don't have a good one to go to, you have the likely severence and unemployment to hold you over until you get the next job.

This all looks good in the course of an interview. What? You think that you are the 1st one to have lost a job? The likelyhood is that whoever interviews you will have had a similar experience in their own career. How you deal with it is apart of life and careers.

You only quit (without an option) if you ego is too big. Anyone who does that ... well, let us know how that works out for you.

I've been looking for a new job or gathering the guts to start out on my own. I hope everyday that I get canned so it gives me the push I need. My boss hates everyone especially me (complicated situation) but I make too much money for him so he won't fire me. Currently the beautiful being is cutting salaries so people quit and they don't get any benefits. He verbally abuses at least one employee everyday just so he can maintain an miserable atmosphere.
