It has Shimano "things" on it, which doesn't mean much because they have several different versions and tiers of their products. Are you wanting to buy a nice bike, or just something to run over Spiders with?

I want something that's relatively cheap and will get me around campus comfortably..

Best thing to do is try taking some bikes out for a test ride. What's comfortable for someone else may not be comfortable to you.

Between now and the end of February, some bike shops will be clearing out last year's models at half price or less, so this is a good time to be looking. You might be able to get something for close to the same discount as that seller was offering for a used bike and if you get it from the store, you may get a warranty, free tune-ups, etc.

They do (and fishing reels, etc.--but not whole bikes). The ad only said, "shimano equipped," which doesn't tell you much. There's a huge range of groups that Shimano makes.

I think I currently have a mix of Dura-Ace, Ultegra, and 105 components on my bike...plus a Deore seatpost, since that's the only one I could find that could be set at a reasonable angle.

I agree with the suggestion of going to a shop to get some off-season deals. Note that the seller in your post doesn't state who makes the bike or which "model" of Shimano components it has. Plus 18" is SMALL -- my better half has a 17" hybrid which I will take for little errands and find it very uncomfortable at 6' tall.
