Anyone ever have those unnaturally quiet days at work?

I sent myself a test email just to make sure email was still working. No DMs. Services are running smoothly. No sudden need to schedule an 'important meeting ASAP'. It's quiet. Too quiet....

Start a movie in the background, great way to pass the time and test the boundaries of how long till something good stops lasting.

You must be mired in emergencies by now.

I worked for a major computer company, last century. When layoff were raging, and they always came on a Tuesday, Tuesday's were really quiet... until your phone rang.

Fortunately dodged those calls, but watched many others get "the call". First opportunity to retire from the company, and I jumped on it like a frog on a June bug.

Yep, had one today. I typically get around 100+ e-mails per day (I'm not in IT), but today there was only probably 1/3 of that.

I get that sometimes especially during night shift. Once in a while I'll call our number to make sure the phones still work lol.

Weekends are especially quiet, at least, night shift. Weekend day shifts are a mixed bag, you can get a day where you're just swamped all day. Especially when there's storms. The storm starts at one end and sweeps through, affecting most of the territory we cover.

Those are nice. Mmmm

Just don't get stoned. You'll be going outside every 10 minutes looking for mushroom clouds. BTW, shrooms aren't the best idea either.

I do a weekly 3 hour radio show on college radio. Some shows I can go for long stretch with no response, no calls, it's kinda eery. Often I then get some response and I realize I was doing just fine, even great. Love it when someone says they're loving my show, happens a lot, but not every 10 minutes.

Nyet. Just naturally quiet days. Work alone a lot. Just the whir of the heater. Might turn on some music.

I thought I posted this, wonder if I did but in the wrong thread... lol.

So 15 minutes before the end of my last night shift the other day as my cross shift coworker was walking in, our fibre optic network started to light up like a Christmas tree. It didn't look too bad, only a bunch of 10 gig links that appeared to be redundant. When you start to get CCS7 alarms and criticals in the DMS then you know it's a bad one but all that stuff was clear.

I guess it's better to have it happen first thing in the morning on like a Wednesday, than 4:30pm on a Friday!

I remember the day the company announced mass layoff, it had been so quiet for three days everyone thought everything was running like a well oiled machine....

A mute colony or silent monks group would be a nice change of pace.
