It came dry out and become brittle although I've never had any hardware long enough to see that happen. As long as you have something good like AS5 you should be fine.
not really, i mean when removing a hsf from a proc sometimes it like crackles if u mean dry out like that, but it cleans up well with some rubbing alcy

And yes, I've run across thermal grease that would be considered "dry", but it's usually the cheapo Radio Shack kind... I haven't used that stuff in ages.
