Anyone ever have a porcelain crown removed?

One of my front teeth has a porcelain crown over it. They had to shave it down and do a root canal and the whole shabang.
Now, there is evidence of decay coming from under the crown.
It has a really foul odor, but just around that tooth. I've been reading that to fix it, they are going to have to break/crack/cut the crown off. Here comes another $1,000 bill.

they'll just use a tool to tap the crown off. as far as the root canal prior, the dentist should've just drilled a hole in the back of the crown for the procedure. he shouldn't have had to shave it down at all.

^Ha. Unless that crown is already falling off, ask for lots of novacaine. They are going to have to drill, cut and chisel it off.

I had the same thing done, and the dentist had to do all kinds of prying and pulling to get the remnants of that old crown off.

I dont want them to break it.
It cost me $900, and I have only had it a few years. It's not my damn fault if they cannot do it right.
Ugh

when my crown had a little pain, i went to the dentist and by the end of the day i had the crown removed and the base left from the original root canal pulled, followed by a bridge the next month. a year later and now that is hurting and i suspect i will have to get implants this time around. man i hate dentists and dental problems.

They gonna break it off because u didn't take care of it. U have to be even more careful when u have crowns compared to regular virgin teeth. No matter what, a new crown must be made because the internal structure has been changed.

I know u are mad, and now u thought the tooth could be saved and now this problem has occurred.

What do you mean I didn't take care of it?

I have one crown & bridge that my dentist has removed, and was able to reuse with no problems. Apparently, the original dentist didn't do a great job with the root canal, and he had to go in and remove some left-over nerve that was causing some decay internally.

i also had a bad dentist; apparently a bacterial infection manifested itself inside the root canal, and spread into my gums. imagine after the root canal filled up, where does the bacteria grow? hint - : IT HURT LIKE A MOTHER

they had to go to the top of my gums and cut a slit, then apply pressure to bleed the bacteria out

How much did that cost?
I don't have any insurance, and I hope its not as expensive as the crown itself.

I dont think it has anything to do with that. I think its something to do with the root canal that is under the crown.
I have an appointment on the 11th to see the dentist. He expressed worries over the root canal as well.
It just stinks.
Like, a rotten decay smell. It's bad. And no amount of flossing or mouthwaste has changed it.
It's kind of depressing me.

Did they replace them for free?
Did you have to pay for each replacement?

..yup I had to pay. First dentist was a butcher in a dental mill. Place must of had 20 chairs in it wit a few white coats running from chair to chair. It was all I could afford at the time. If your stump is rotting it's prob.due to a poor margin that's allowing your grub to get stuck under it. I always have my stubs root canalled so I don't have hot/cold sensitivities.

dude seriously i'd get this fixed RIGHT AWAY. that's just pretty bad. I mean, can you imagine talking to a girl that has your same situation? that's just nasty. Anyways I had to have a root canal done on two of my front teeth (it was 1, but it was in between the teeth?). Anyways I ended up getting a porcelin crown on both of them. One of them ended up breaking @.@. Went to the dentist the next day and got a bridge on that crown. If it's really that bad you should go see an endodontics (sp?) and they'll patch you up. Where I live, there's a special endodontics place and they're awesome.

Regular dentists are good, but it seems like you should see a specialist this time.

You have to get that tooth treated first by an endodontics (specialist). They will go through your crown (drill hold through it) and remove & replace the root canal. ($$$) After they are sure your root canal is clean/fix then you can get the crown replaces by your regular denist. (More $$$)

I had one of my tooth done because infection in the root canal. X-Ray during regular cleaning catched it. They send me to an endodontics to get fix. Cost = $2000 (ins) + a few hundreds for me. I had to wait until the next year before I could do the crown because I reach the limite of my insurance. That crown replacement costed over $1000.

Seeing how I'm getting porcelin veneers next month, this talk about decay setting in under the crowns worries me. :(

It's not like I didn't take care of my teeth.
One of my front top teeth was broken when I was about 13-14 years old. It was broken in half.
My parents didn't care too much for taking care of their children, so they never did anything about it. Not until the nerve started dying.
The pain was horrible. It would throb non-stop. My dad would just have me swish whiskey around in my mouth until it numbed it.
Well, it got to the point when I couldnt stand it anymore, and reluctantly they took me to see a dentist. I received a root canal. It sucked.
He told them to get it capped/crowned ASAP, as waiting could cause damage. They didn't care, and so I was never brought back to the dentist. That was the only time in my life my parents brought me to the dentist.

Well, flash forward to me at 22. I saved up enough money to pay to have it fixed. I went in, and they cleaned and shaved down the tooth.
Then they had someone come in and special make my tooth for me. They put it on. It was great to have a whole tooth again.
It was really nice up until recently. The crown is still in good condition. But something must be going on below it, as it smells terrible when you touch the gumline around the tooth or floss around the tooth.
I just used some listerine. I kept it in my mouth for 5 minutes. It burned like crazy until my mouth went numb. Spit it out, touched my gum, and it still smells horrible.

I take care of my teeth. This is out of my control.

..time to quit neffing and see the dentist. sounds like periodontal disease. If not treated it can cause heart valve infection.

I have an appointment on the 11th of sept with the same doctor who did my crown.
I just wish there was a way to rid myself of the smell for a short period of time.
I have asked some people, and they say my breath smells fine, but when I touch the gum, it stinks.
