Anyone EVER gotten Windows TCP sharing to work?

Obviously the NetBios workaround is what I am using right now.

I have NEVER gotten windows to share over TCP. UDP yes, but it seems there are people, in some hole somewhere who have gotten it to work. I am talking about default installs on machines. No special settings and on the same workgroup.

It worked flawlessly in linux....so?

I'm confused.

If you set it up right there are generally no problems. What's not working for you?

these windows networking problems generally don't happen to XP Pro machines. At least I haven't faced any that is running win XP Pro.

XP Home is the culprit that produces tons of problems. Especially those new OEM ones. I've had 2 XPriences with them and have yet to solve it...

Since I am sharing my internet connection through a router, I didn't have to do much on XP Pro to make it share files..

please everyone. Stop blaming the OS for not being able to "see" other computers. It is a configuration problem. You can have 98, me, 2000, nt, xp home, xp pro machines all happily talking if they are configured right.

As related to Regular people having computers at home, there are Millions that share with Windows and probably only thousands that share with Linux.

The above is not a statement of best or better it just a numerical fact.

NEVER had a problem with sharing in tcp.

You do realize that you cant go wireless just by taking away the cable, right?

"Sharing"? I assume you mean file sharing, but am I the only one here who has no idea what your issue is? You got "sharing" to work with the "NetBios workaround" and over UDP, but not TCP, right? I may be a litttle dumb today or something, but what exactly are you trying to do, and what's your problem? Or am I just being dense today?

If you go to your LAN connection properties, then TCP/IP, Advanced, WINS....then just enable the option to "enable NetBios over TCP/IP". This is with XP Pro - I have no idea if XP Home has this feature or not.
