Anyone ever get the urge to sell everything you own?

i'm not really selling everything i own, but i'm just giving it away. roommate gets my tv, some of my friends get my furniture, my brother gets my car. all i'm keeping are my clothes.

Not sell, that's too much trouble... but i throw away junk... and people are baffled at what i throw out, saying i could sell or give it away (sometimes the stuff are new and still sealed)

Hmm, where do you live?

i'm with you. a couple weeks ago i wrote a thread about freaking out about having too much stuff. it's really a double-edged sword: having stuff really does give me anxiety. but then i go to my friend's place with nice furniture and a giant tv and i am a little envious.

Everytime I try to cram one more thing into my closet or my computer parts containers I get that urge... Then I realize my wife and I like all our junk so we keep it 🙂

I moved to Europe on two weeks' notice. If we weren't 'live light' people before then, we would be now.

How many of you can picture carrying everything you own in both hands through Schiphol airport, after a transatlantic flight?

(it was worth it!)

what's really tempting is thinking about how much camping gear and gas i could buy with the money if i sold everything, including the stereo and computer and stuff. i could drive around the continent for a couple years, easy, just seeing everything there is to see and staying in campgrounds.

No, but, seriously, I'd love to do that. In fact, the wife gets out-of-control depression about how much the stuff we have ties us down, and how she doesn't want to be tied to one area.

On the OTHER hand....she wants a nice house, nice clothes, security, etc.

While the knee-jerk reaction to that is that it's just silly and impractical, the truth is what she really wants is about a half dozen cottage/bungalow/flat/whatevers outside 4 or 5 major points of interest across the US, and not having to work to suppor them.

*sigh*

Women.

They either want something completely impossible to achieve, or want a combination of several mutually exclusive things.

Sure are cute nekkid, though.

No, I never feel like that. 🙂

Then again, he who dies with the most toys... still dies.

You can say the same about money, yet it doesn't make me want to be poor.

Uphill battle. Sigh.

Been there. Done that.

Ohio -> Oregon.

We carried a LOT more junk that I would have wanted to. And, guess what? Now, there we are here? For a whole YEAR?! *MOST* of it is still packed!

Used to, not anymore though.

Got too much crap... I'm building a shed for all my yard crap so I can set up my woodworking crap in the garage🙂

When I moved last time, I moved so many boxes I vowed to start getting rid of things. My new motto is if I haven't used it in 6 months it goes to trash/or sold.

I've been contemplating this lately.

But not selling everything we own, just keep 2 computers each and sell the rest.
