i can't actually spell the name since e b a y is a forbidden word here so i leave it up to your imagination to figure out what giant auction site i am talking about.

anyhoo, i have been monitoring prices there for socket- a mobos and duron cpus. i was shocked to see how outrageous some of the bids were, and that people actual pay that much. the abit kt7 can be found on price watch dot com (maybe that is another forbidden words) for $135, but on you-know-who there are people selling it for as high as $170! i guess they are trying to prove what barnum (the circus guy) once said, "there's a sucker born every minute." it's hard to find a good deal because someone always outbids you, and they always overbid. saw a couple of msi k7ts being sold for $120. i am sorry but i would not pay that much for that board on you-know-who.

duron 700s are going for over $100. i guess my perception of you-know-who (giant auction site) is all wrong. i thought it was a great place to find good deals.

you have to be a relentless psycho, and be willing to get up at 2 in the morning, just as an auction is ending to get in a good bid. Took me 3 weeks to get a 10K scsi drive, but instead of the $350.00 it sells for, I paid $165.00!!!

I have gotten my share of good deals on E-B@y. You just have to take the time to closely watch the item, and be prepared to snipe it seconds before the auction closes. I don't even place a bid at all until around 15-20 seconds before the end. I have a second window open with my info and the highest price that I am willing to pay already entered. I hit refresh in the first window until the last few seconds, then switch to the 2nd window, and BAM! hit the place bid button. Worked well a lot of times to snag something at a good price.

Egay is a big mixed bag. You can still get good deals, but because of the uneducated masses on there, you have to search long and hard and pick a spot.

People bid outrageous prices for Durons when they can order them from many reliable online sites for much less -- without the risk one takes with bying from some individual..... but if you keep a close eye on a specific item you want, and jump in at the last second with your bid, you can get a good deal.

Also, computer components tend to be overpriced because the masses are not well informed on the 'real' market price of the items. When it comes to most other stuff on there though, the prices are pretty much in-line with market prices.
