Anyone ever filed a surge/UPS connected equipment warranty claim?

I had a power outage for about 30 - 45 minutes. I have 3 computers and the wireless router on separate battery backups. I shut off my windows computer by hand then turned on my laptop and shut down the two linux computers so none of them had to power off abruptly when the backups ran out of power.

One of them never POSTed properly again after that. Conservatively, it had been running for 3 or 4 months without a problem. I tried to isolate the problem and after swapping out various parts, the only thing I learned is that I have no idea what the problem is.

I noticed the box of the UPS sitting to the side and it said $100,000 Connected Equipment Warranty so I figured I'd file for the cost of the computer and get a new battery backup since as near as I can tell the problem was directly related to the UPS failing to protect the computer when the power resumed after the power outage.

I am now waiting on Belkin to evaluate my claim. I had to mail the whole UPS and every receipt for the computer to them totaling about $400. I haven't been able to find much information from people who have used the warranty through google but I am fearing they will just blow it off. Has anyone ever made use of the warranty on one of these things?

Update: After much delay (8/17 they received it, 9/1 they approved it) and outright lies from their customer support people, I finally got through to the supervisor and she eventually reviewed and approved my claim in full. They are mailing me an offer which I have to sign and return. Then they send me a check. Also, they are mailing me a new battery backup to replace the one that failed. Time to shop for a new computer...

They [surge protector companies] don't usually make it easy, and sometimes they will give you BS reasons why they don't have to and won't fill your claim. Read the fine print before you buy, and read the fine print now so you know exactly what you are entitled to.

Yes, with CyberPower. They expected receipts for each item I was claiming as well as the items themselves, shipped at my expense with no reimbursement. Since it was just my HDD and PSU that went up in smoke, I ended up not following through - but I did get a new free UPS out of it from them in a sort of apology.

I had the same situation. I had to provide receipts. I found roughly $200 worth of receipts and $200 worth I couldn't find. I listed the items without receipts and provided estimates. Belkin says that they could request the items and request to inspect the location at their discretion. I am hoping that they don't demand the items because I don't really want to go through the hassle of shipping them. However, if it costs me $50 total to ship the computer and they give me $400, I can still grab a refurb Dell for about 300 or so and not lose money.

If you buy everything from a place like NewEgg.com, getting old receipts is easy.

Stay away from CyberPower, their UPSs are garbage. We had four of them replaced (and even some of the replacements replaced!).
