Anyone ever fight with airline personell over personal electronics?

Specifically, if told to turn off your cell phone, do you?

Baldwin was booted off the flight because he refused to turn off his cell phone after the plane's doors were closed for departure, the airline said.

The actor was apparently playing "Words With Friends," a Scrabble-like online game.

"We fully support the flight attendants and the way they handled the situation," spokesman Jeff Pharr said. "The crew responded as they have been thoroughly trained to do so by the FAA as safety professionals onboard the aircraft."

Pharr added that the union would retract its petition if Baldwin issued an apology to the attendants.

"30 Rock," meanwhile, continues to air on some American Airline flights in accordance with its standard programming procedures, airline spokesman Tim Smith said.

The actor mocked American Airlines over the weekend during a cameo appearance on "Saturday Night Live," issuing an apology to himself while dressed as airline "Capt. Steve Rogers."

What a belligerent ass. Turn your phone off so the plane can get the other passengers to their destinations.

Well since they allow ipads in the fucking cockpit now the "electrical interfearence" line is 100% bullshit.

So i can totally see his point in telling them to fuck off and continuing with his game.

Best not to fight with them. They'll just think you're a terrorist. Everyone on a plane is a terrorist until proven otherwise, and it's pretty hard to prove otherwise 100%. If you start fighting with them, you are only making things worse.

That said, those rules are retarded. Same with the no cell phone at gas station rules. These are old rules based on myths that have been long gone.

this is 2011. how does a cell phone interfere with the navigation of plane?
Garmin tech support's first question concerning intermittent signal loss in their aviation GPS Navs is 'did anyone in the plane have an iPhone?'

Electronic flight bags have the wireless disabled.

How come they don't allow the usage of cell phones on board?

Because you wouldn't have reception anyway and the rapid switching between towers is apparently bad on the network.

It has nothing to do with interference or any of that bullshit, plus it is not up to the airline so there's no point bitching at them.

Heh heh

In this time of age.. people don't use cell phones just for calling..

You can play games, watch movies, listen to music, apps...etc,

Uhh, you can use a cell phone when electronics are allowed.. As long as you turn off the radio. Come on now, don't pretend you didn't know that

I'm well aware of airplane mode, just never used it. I've never wanted to tempt fate and argue with them over the airplane mode either. Most of them aren't trained for that and wouldn't know what airplane mode does.

I get yelled at every time I fly because I boot my phone as soon as we land. It's silly that US border patrol expects me to not use my cell until after customs, I've waited up to 3 hours to get out of there.

I need to tell the people that really matter in my life that I'm there.

This doesn't mean it is a reasonable question. The powers-that-be determine that interference is caused, yet millions of iPads do not interfere with any other technologies outside of planes... Weird...

My favorite part about this was where he went on a rant about AA over this and compared their service to Greyhound.

Then Greyhound issued a press release complaining about Baldwin.

I still don't get why people have to make trouble for the damn stewards. They're just doing their damn jobs, it's not their place to make interpretations of what electronics can or cannot do. Turn the shit off and read a book for 10 minutes.

If you can't take liquids on a plane as it could be dangerous but my iPhone could take down the plane then I want to stop flying.

It's retarded. They do it so they can charge you for making a phone call.

Course, anyone with half a brain would just make their phone call before they boarded the aircraft.

As NikolaeVarius said, the flight attendants don't make policy.

Baldwin was lucky he didn't end up in a TSA holding cell for a while.

I do make my call before the flight but if it's a long flight sometimes you need to make one, they should stop you just so they can charge more.

I know it's not but they are representatives of the company.

I don't know what the TSA is but if it's some kind of customs thing he didn't deserve that.

I've got to agree. Whether or not you think the rule is valid Baldwin wasted the time of over 100 other people. It's arrogant of him to think that he's above the rules.
