i've heard good stuff about it and wanted to take my gf somewhere nice in the LA area... Lawry's was booked full this weekend so my friend was tellin me about Maggiano's. From what i hear, they serve dishes family style, so i dont know if going as a party of two would give me a good experience.

comments?

They're pretty good for 'American' Italian food, you'll be fine with just two people.

You can do half orders but you should just both pick something you like and split it.

Yeah, you can buy smaller portions. Very popular in Atlanta.

You'll be fine. As everyone said, you can get a lot of dishes as half portions. I personally think Maggiano's is great.

2 people is fine...just either A.) Don't eat for the 2 days leading to the dinner or B.) Drive an SUV in order to properly haul away your leftovers. ;)

Might I suggest the fried zucchini (sp?) with a lemon aioli to start?

I've eaten there once. Other than the name, I don't recall anything spectacular about the meal. I did drink alot though.

girls like the gnocci

there is one in Durham, and they do half portions if you want. 1 portion = dinner and lunch the next day.

The one in San Jose that I got to eat at was very good. Maybe it tasted better because it was free. Ate there at the uh...6800 launch I think it was....Nvidia bought dinner.

The Maggiano's over in Santa Row (basically a rodeo dr in northern california) has been consistanly been packed. I went there a couple months ago on a saturday night and the wait for a table was 3 hours. The area is usually packed but 3 hours?!!

i tried ruth's chris recently... wasn't impressed with the steak at all... i mean butter and steak is just too bland for me. i like prime rib tho, with the traditional horseradish and that weird brown sauce.

Lawry's is always "booked" because they only take reservations for half of their restaurant. Depending on what u really feel like and how much u wanna spend, the wait at Lawry's for 2 people shouldn't be that long. I guess it really depends on what time u go. The longest i've waited there is 1.5 hours for a party of 12.

there's a lot of other nice restaurants on la cienega. depending on what type of food you want to eat, im sure there's a lot of us LA people that would be willing to recommend a place. type of food, amount u wanna spend, and location would be ideal.

Maggiano's in my opinion is just one of the better "chain" italian restaurants. The one at the grove is a good location tho. after you eat you can either walk around the grove or the farmers market.
