Add another hour or two if you get stopped and searched.

Me and some buddies drove down to Rosarito for spring break. I would definitely not want to get stranded on some parts during the way there.

I'm sure it's a couple days of driving, since it's at the tip of Baja.

It's quite a drive. I had to drive to La Paz which is about an hour north of Cabo. Baja is basically desert and mountains and nothing else, not even very many cities. Horrible drive, plus the fact that the roads aren't really roads but worn down paths from when the aztecs used to use them probably.

I didn't drive it, but I biked it
The roads in Baja are fairly good compared to the rest of Mexico, they are hilly, but the terrain is beautiful
You go through like five climate changes on your way down, simply amazing

According to my bicycle computer, it is 1550 kilometers from San Diego to La Paz, Cabo is an hour south of that
You can probably pull an average speed of 80 km/h, and then L.A. is two hours north, Cabo is an hour so
So I'd estimate roughly twenty two hours

My friend, you haven't seen the rest of Mexico or Central America
The roads in the Baja are in pristine condition in comparison

Oh, and don't be worried about finding a place to stay, most places have relatively inexpensive hotels which aren't really all that ghetto

My dad did it several years back - I think it took him two days and he carried an extra 40 gallons of fuel with him because of the long empty stretches of highway.

Since we are opening the borders for mexican truckers, check into hitch hiking.

There is only one long stretch of road with no gas stations in the very interior of the Baja, for about two hundred miles or so, otherwise you won't have a problem
