Anyone ever done a River Cruise?

My wife and I are thinking of a trip to Europe for the first time and we came across these river cruises:

Has anyone ever done one of these before? Was it a good experience? Was a day in each city enough to get a good feel of the country?

It looks like fun but maybe just picking one or two actual destinations would be better for first timers?
