Anyone ever do a Lobster boil?

That's 30 lobsters. Going to boil them later tonight with zatarain's crab boil, like crawfish. Did it last time and it's so much better than a plain Salt Water boil. I wholesale them, so I can't say how much I got them for. If you want to know you can PM me. lol

When I was in the Navy, assigned to Norfolk, VA, a friend and I would drive up to his parent's home in Portland, Maine about one weekend a month if we could just for that feeling of being home. One time at his cousin's, they came back with 50-60 small lobsters, a godawful huge amount they were given by friends, and the Lobster Boil and eating contest were on. I could only eat two but my friend ate seven. Great experience but I couldn't tell you anything about how they were cooked other than in a super large pot and slowly brought up to boiling temperature. I heard no lobster screams.

speaking of lobster, this is a PSA for anybody in northern NJ that loves lobster. The Manor in west orange has an all you can eat lobster buffet Wed-Sat for $52 on weeknights and $58 on Sat. The buffet has a lot of other food too from seafood to meat dishes. I just found out, am going soon and have heard great reviews about it.

My wife and I took my brother to that last year for his 40th birthday. It was just ok. The lobster were all split in half down the long axis and weren't so great. I think the carving stations were better. The desserts were mediocre.

It's possible it was just a bad day or a strange time of that particular day because I'd heard good things about it as well.

On topic, my parents will usually buy lobster in large batches when they go on good sales and then boil the whole bunch at the same time. I usually only eat the tails, and usually with melted butter and rice. Then I fall asleep in front of their tv for a few hours.

For the 4th of July my wife and I did a clam bake with lobster tails, clams, red potatoes and corn on the cob. I put the potatoes in a large pot filled about 1/3 of the way with water and then poured in a bottle of cheap white wine (cheapest you can find). I boiled the potatoes for about 1/2 hour then added the corn and cooked for another ten minutes then added the lobster tails and clams, fresh chopped garlic cloves, Old Bay seasoning and boiled for about another 10 minutes.

Serve with fresh French bread and drawn butter. It was delicious.

people are such a plague on this planet. i have no problem eating lobster, but smushing them in a box to save a few pennies is idiotic and stupid.

Zartrains is for crabs, imo. I don't think you need anything in the water for lobster. Season some of the melted butter if you want to add some additional flavors.

utahraptor, that's a funny comic you got there. It's hilarious because when I boil them 1 or 2 at a time, I can hear the screams. I mean, air coming out. lol

ATOT Meetup in Orange NJ time?

Heh, i have been shopping lobster shipping companies for the last 20 minutes...

lol, make sure you look at the shipping rate. Overnight shipping can be as much as 150$ to 250$ for a 40 pound batch, for fishermen who don't have a deal with UPS. Overnight is the only possible way to get live food.

Done a lobster boil, but I still want to do a proper lobster bake one day...buried in the sand, etc.

Just attended a crawfish boil with 80lb 3 weeks ago...that was a mess, LOL.

Lobster is 3.99/lb in my local grocery store. You can get them for less direct from the lobsterman because they only make ~$1.25/lb wholesale.

Up in New England parties centered around eating lobster are often called "Bug Bakes" or "Lobsterques." Not uncommon to see hundreds of the buggers cooked at one time at those events. At my brother in laws annual bug bake, he cooks anywhere from 200-300 lobsters over a big fire in his back yard.

we used to go rent a lake house up in Maine every summer... at least once during the summer we'd have a big lobster bake down on the beach. it was fun

I'm not the biggest lobster fan, though. I mean, it tastes fine enough, but I'd sooner eat just about any other seafood.

Oh man...a lobster/crab low country boil is on of my favorite things in the whole world. It's in my top 3 foods: bone-in ribeye steak and lasagna are in there too.

Look at this deliciousness!

I live about 2 miles from Long Island Sound. So yeah, we do lobster boils and clam bakes often.

Never did 30 lobsters at once before.
