Yeah, I hate that feeling...it's like spiders are crawling up your neck as you scramble to figure out if you broke anything. Glad it came together!

Yeah, my stomach was queezy for about an hour.

BTW, temps are only 5 or 6 degrees cooler, but it's been powered up and down for the past hour or so...plus the heater is on in the house.

I would have gone for the 7700 version if it fits. Just installed mine in my wife's system Saturday (after owning the 7700 since early this year but not being able to use it because of fit problems). Very happy with it. Set the Abit KN8 motherboard BIOS to run the fan at 40% under 60ºC or so and I can't hear it over the sound of the HDD and other undervolted case fans when the side cover is on - exception being when system is booting up the fan runs full speed.

I've put the CPU under a little pressure. While running WINAVI to convert some avi files, the CPU runs at the same temp it did before I replaced the stock Intel hsf with the Zalman 7000, and it also idled around the same temp before the install. 47-50 idle, 59-62 load.

Did I do something wrong? I followed all the directions, applied a nice, thin coating of the thermal paste that came with the hsf. Is it undervolted by default or something?

If you did anything wrong, it was to go with the smaller 7000 version. Those were designed before the Prescotts. I had one on a Prescott and found it to perform no better temperature wise, but was quieter. That's why I suggested the 7700 series if it fit your setup - those will cool the Prescott a bit better. Then again, the Prescott will run hot no matter what (I also had an XP-120 and my Prescott ran hot).

Crap.

I've noticed that my mobo temps have RISEN since installing it. It used to run between 35 and 39c. It got up to 43 yesterday.

Try re-installing it, make sure you clean the old thermal paste and apply new one.
also make sure HSF is aligned properly.

Feel the HSF, if it feels cold then CPU is not making good contact with HSF.
