Anyone ever considered an IV for alcohol?

I'm no expert, but I'd think you wouldn't want to deposit drinking alcohol into your bloodstream, as it goes through all sorts of processing in the digestive tract.
Not entirely true. Whatever the liver cannot process at any given time (usually 1 drink per hour for a 160lb male) is inserted directly into the bloodstream.

And then you get drunk.

Cheers to more beers!

I'll take it cold and in a bottle please, not through a farking needle.

p.s. tell her to mix instead. This is a dumbsh*t idea no matter how much of a joke it is.

Absurd as it may sound, IV alcohol is a recognised medical treatment. Although I suspect the medical preparation is purer and less strong than vodka, as well as being isotonic and appropriately buffered.

Yup, I have a great uncle that's an alcoholic. I believe he had an IV when he was in the hospital.

Very unlikely that it was alcohol. It was probably a mixture of vitamins, possibly with a valium like drug to prevent alcohol withdrawral (which is potentially fatal). The IV drug (chlormethiazole) is now obsolete and has largely been replaced by tablets of chlordiazepoxide (librium), although it is still used on occasion.

IV alcholol is not used in treatment of alcholoism (the whole point of treatment is to avoid contact with the toxic substance). It is rarely used, and only for severe poisoning with other alcohols (e.g. methanol or ethylene glycol).

IV ETOH is just plain dangerous think of the contamination

now ETOH or Marijuana on a patch now thats a great idea

An overdose resulting in drain bamage or death is a serious consideration.
My alky brother did it at a party while in the RSA {S.Africa}.
Everyone got drunk but it was not the same fun as using it orally.

My friend got the bright idea while drinking some nasty raspberry vodka that it would be much easier to get buzzed if you could get the alcohol straight into your bloodstream instead of orally. I suppose you could mix everclear with a salt or sugar solution to dilute it and let it drip in. Does this sound safe, or an idea that could work?

(Note: This is her crazy idea, not mine 😀)
A word of advice when you try this: be right outside the emergency room when the drip starts...
