Anyone ever considered an IV for alcohol?

My friend got the bright idea while drinking some nasty raspberry vodka that it would be much easier to get buzzed if you could get the alcohol straight into your bloodstream instead of orally. I suppose you could mix everclear with a salt or sugar solution to dilute it and let it drip in. Does this sound safe, or an idea that could work?

(Note: This is her crazy idea, not mine :D)

I'm no expert, but I'd think you wouldn't want to deposit drinking alcohol into your bloodstream, as it goes through all sorts of processing in the digestive tract.

You can actually inject vodka intravenously, but it's way ridiculous and gets you destroyed forever.

Not entirely true. Whatever the liver cannot process at any given time (usually 1 drink per hour for a 160lb male) is inserted directly into the bloodstream.

Doesn't it?! Who wants to bother DRINKING the poison when you can get a constant hit right to the blood.

Yea, I was definately laying on the sarcasm. I drink beer because I like the taste, not because I want to get smashed.

Sounds like a stupid thing to try. Seriously.

Please don't try this at home.

Try drinking better beverages instead.

Do it and let us know how it goes. You won't care that you are a dumbass when you have the brain damage going. "Yay alcohol is so cool yay!"

If anyone ever tries that they'd better be on the way to a clinic the next day. When you get that bad you need to admit you have a problem.

Um usually intravenous preparations are buffered so that you don't into
shock (not that that's the sole purpose of buffering an IV but you get the point).
Its very likely that directly injecting alcohol into your bloodstream will
@#$# you up but not in the good way.

Absurd as it may sound, IV alcohol is a recognised medical treatment. Although I suspect the medical preparation is purer and less strong than vodka, as well as being isotonic and appropriately buffered.

i say you just get a huge needle and inject it directly into your stomach. that way you dont have to worry too much about aiming and the rush is better.
