That is odd. I have renters insurance with state farm, and they never came out to my place to see it. I just gave them a list of what I had.

that's encouraging 🙂. how much do you pay around?

my annual premium is 200.00, so i pay 50 a month until it's paid off, which i just finished a month or two ago.

they came to look at the outside of the building, i have a separate storage area inside my building so he wanted to see how that was "secured", and he gave a visual look around for water damage.

i forgot how much coverage i had, i need to read my policy again.

btw if you get the discount, make sure they apply it. i looked at my car insurance bills and they never applied my additional discount, so i had to call and get it added in.

well i just went to triple A this morning and got my renter's insurance... i got the cheapest plan being the cheapy i am... $75 a year up to $100k liability. Covers personal belongings but up to their depreciated value... woulda cost me $30 per year to make it not depreciate... but oh wells. i got renters insurance because my leasing office made me... they didn't mention a single thing to me until after i signed the damn lease 🙁. sneaky. (they were also trying to sell me some ripoff insurance afterward)

Okay, bringing this thread back to life...

I requested a quote for renter's insurance from AAA today. I added up the replacement value of my stuff in my head, and it's well under $10K. I requested an online quote for $15K and got an email from a local agent. The guy says he bumped me up to $30K. Why'd he do that??

No one's in the office now, but I'll get back to him tomorrow.

Last week, I requested a quote for AAA auto insurance, and they (a different agent) left out one of the items that I asked for on the online quote. It changes the price enough to make their quote average instead of being a good deal.

My old roomate says they did the same for him on his auto quote. Is this common business practice with AAA?

We're in SoCal.

The guy responded to my email. He says he bumped me up to $30K coverage because they charge according to room count (2 floors, 2 bedrooms, 1.5 bath, living room, kitchen), and the coverage costs the same if I get covered for $15K or for $30K.

They're asking $169/year. Does that seem about right?

A co-worker of mine contacted them and was quoted $20/mo for $50,000 coverage.

Depends on where you live, too. $169/year might be right for LA.
