Sometimes when I get up from sitting down, usually when I am seated on a low surface like the floor, I will black out. Basically, I just lose eyesight for a few seconds and feel dizzy. Anyone else experience this and know what causes it?

Yeah, I used to get this when I was in my early - mid teens.

I think it happened because I was unpopular. :(

Hahahaah.

Low blood sugar could do it. De you eat regularly. If so you might want to get your blood pressure checked.
Or I suppose you could have a brain tumor.

You probably have low blood pressure. Are you normaly low? For those of us with low blood pressure naturally this can happen easily. I've had it happen half a dozen times, stand up from a laying position without sitting for a moment and I'll lose vision for half a second.

Lack of blood to the brain

Blood accumulates in your legs when you're sitting down and have not moved for a while, and tensing of the abdominal muscles restricts the flow of blood from the legs back to the heart

I think it's a combination of Mad Cow, SARS, and west nile. You better get to the doctor...well not because of those, but because you have some sort of real medical problem. The AT'ers will try hard, but they can't just diagnose you over a messageboard.

we used to call this a head rush.

you can avoid it by not standing up suddenly.

see a doctor if you are concerned.

Happens to me a lot. A couple times I've had to grab onto something real quick to avoid falling and hurting myself. Once I was working at a local grocery store and I almost collapsed completely on the register. Everyone said my face turned white..and I looked like a ghost.

It sucks...but I don't know why it happens to me.

I acctually experienced this a lot and went to a specialist. What I found out was that everyone's blood pressure drops a little when you get up.. Mine was dropping a bit to much.. just get up slower and you should be fine.

I had it all the time in high school during months that I ran track or cross country. I would get tunnel vision with red and blue fuzz around (like a TV set on a channel you don't get) and would be very dizzy. I asked the doctor and he said try eating more sugar, or just stand up slower. He didn't mention blood pressure, but you could try increasing your blood pressure by eating more salt.

Only one time when I was in a hot tub and got out and stood up quickly.

Low blood pressure.
