My friends and I are thinking about going down there at the end of August through the first week of September.... If anyone has been down there whatever info you could give me would be very helpful

The hotels we've been looking at say they're all located near the beach. Will we need a car in Miami?? We're planning on staying 7 days, and from the prices on Expedia and Orbitz, it looks like it will cost between 350-500 each for 4 people for 7 days (this includes airfare, hotel, and a car rental)

Besides the beach, what other attractions are there and how far away are they from the beach??

The beach is the only thing worth seeing in Miami.

If you're sticking to South Beach, then you probably won't need a car.

Prepare to pay a cover at just about any good club you go to.

My friend was telling me that certain hotels will hook you up with free admission to the clubs in the area. I'm not sure which hotels tho'.

Bayside Marketplace is kinda cool.

yah, you'll need a car in miami. there are cool places to go other than the beach. bayside, the arena, the grove. tuesday night is white trash tuesdays (wet tshirt, mud wrestling, etc) at sandbar, and thursday night is college night. south beach is booming any night, but the prices are retarded, and you have to be bling bling at some clubs. drinks are expensive, and many places don't know how to make them (i went to college in new york and became accustomed to long islands - i ordered them when i came back home and it was terrible at some places, good at others).

to save money, i suggest getting trashed at wet willies - about $8 for a 16oz hard frozen drink (call-a-cab is my favorite). two of these and you're golden, three and the craziness begins.

You will definitely need a car. Ironically, you won't be able to use it because the traffic is mind numbing throughout south Florida. Particularly in South Beach.
As for what to do, I suggest you make other plans. South Beach is yesterday's fish. It's over. It's for tourists from Iowa who've never seen the ocean, and illegal immigrants who want to show everyone back home how they've "made it" in America.

Go to the clevelander.

You can hang out there at night for your whole trip if you wish and still have a blast.

Well, if you claim that South Beach sucks, where else can my friends and I go vacation for a week?

Somewhere with nice weather, willing to spend up to 500 per person for around 5-7 days, just want to relax and party

I don't know where you're located, or where you're originating your travels from. But, the first thing that comes to mind is San Francisco. One of the most spectacular cities in the World. Much to do, much to see, much to eat. For a couple of single guys looking to relax and party, you can do a lot worse than SF.
If that isn't you're cup of tea, and you're leaning towards the beach, then I suggest the SoCal area. San Diego and the surrounding area can be a blast, too.
And let's not forget Young America, Minnesota. I like the name.

Well, there are 4 or 5 of us going, I am from Taiwan/New York City/Washington DC - the other people are from Hong Kong / San Francisco / Korea / New York

so I think that rules out SF or anywhere in Cali - I doubt my friend from SF would want to go anywhere in cali :(

1 girl and 3 or 4 guys possibly - I know I know, but none of us are interested in her so its all good

I just got back from a week in Chicago and loved it there. I agree with South Beach being old news, its fun and all just nothing to get excited over though, unless you have tons of money to go clubbing since thats all there is to do there, you could always take a drive down to key west for a few days, its about 3.5 to 4 hours to get down there from Miami, depending how traffic is etc.. Also its not that expensive to go to the Bahamas for a weekend either. Guess since I live close to Miami I don't think its anything special but if you've never been to anything like it then maybe you'll enjoy yourself if you're into clubbing every night.

the living room is pretty cool (assuming you can get in), there's some other nice clubs in sb....hotels..... lowes is really nice, couple others too. pm me if you want more info, might even show you around one night if ur not some kind of freaky mass murderer or anything :)

edit: if your looking to go clubbing, or stay anywhere remotely nice in South beach, expect to pay a hell of a lot more than 350-500 for 7 days per person...

Will you need a car? Yes!

Miami is awesome, and SoBe is GREAT! Sure, I'm biased because I grew up there, but after living up North, I have a finer appreciation for Miami's climate (2 seasons: spring and summer... that's it). :p

Funny you should mention SoBe. I'm having my first bachelor party (of three ... my fiancee rocks!) there this coming weekend. Can't wait!! :D

Hey, Hollywood, there's lots more in Miami! Sure, there aren't Oscar statuettes lying all over, but it still rocks! :p

Also, there's always Coconut Grove. My usual Miami-weekends are Grove Thurs/Fri, SoBe Sat. ...that leaves recovery for Sun. :D

(BTW, we went to high school together, so I'm just busting on him, not actually flaming. :))

I'm going to be in Miami next week, and I'm looking forward to it. It's a fun city. Club hopping is great when you have the hookup so you don't have to pay. :p

South Beach is played out? Whatever. Club after club and girls for miles. It's a fun place.

If you are going to get some sun, party/clubhop then that is definitely the place to be. I just got back last weekend. I didn't need a car. I got a hotel in South Beach because I knew that I was going strictly for partying and I knew that everything I needed would right there. Go to http://www.southbeachgroup.com/ and those are hotels that I definitely know with specials for the clubs, etc. Beware though because some of those hotel rooms are VERY small. I didn't mind though because I wasn't going to South Beach for the hotels and I spent very little time in my room.
