I'll be near the "White Marsh Mall" off I95... I'm coming back late Friday afternoon and need to know of any good places to eat "close" to my location... Arrival at BWI is at 8:00pm and I'll be hungry. Thai is my favorite followed by chinese and Mexican, but a good burger or steak is great too.

Any ideas???

I work 20 mins south of b-more, and i've bee there plenty. that is one city that i just despise. it has some nice parts, dont get me wrong, like near the harbor its really nice, but the city is just trashy as all hell and crowded. its the one place i live near that i really stay clear of.

Watch where you're travelling. You can go from the nice parts of Baltimore, to some really dangerous sections in no time at all.

Yeah, B-more sucks... If you have to be there, go down to the harbor... there are a few good restaurants around there.

Baltimore is a nice city if you stay around Inner Harbor and places like that. Try to look up some restaurants before you get there. Have fun.

Hehe,

I live just outside the city and go to school in the city. White marsh is plenty far from the city, and coming from BWI you dont even need to go through the city... Just go to the white marsh mall and grab something to eat. Otherwise you can go to the innerharbor pay 10$ for 1 hour to park and eat an overpriced meal. Your choice :-D

Exactly... what this guy said..
I'm up north of Baltimore in another county..but a frequent visit every now and then arises...
My experiences include high parking; rude obnoxious people that act like Baltimore is going to disappear within the blink of an eye, so they run you over everywhere you go..
overpriced food.. as mentioned.. I had a slice of pizza from some place on the harbor that ran about $8.00 and it tasted worse than Domino's

Oh yeah.. if it means anything to you.. The first day into the 2006 year, Baltimore had 4 homicides. I guess we are tring to get back to the top again this year

Yeah I've lived around Baltimore my whole life. White Marsh isn't anywhere near the city. It's a nice mall. Has a food court. One of the few Arby's left in the state (god I love Arby's). There is a chinese place in the food court. Has a Fuddruckers which makes absolutely awesome burgers. I highly recommend them. Ruby Tuesday at the food court has steak.

my gf went to Hopkins, so she would know better, but if you're willing to trek to inner harbor, there's some pretty good places out there... for dessert, my gf and i love Vaccaro's in little Italy

funny how there's all this dislike of the city... one of my gf's friends (who grew up in Bmore) referred to himself (and possibly insunuating about other people from Bmore) as a Baltimoron

The harbor area is pretty interesting to walk around, but if you are just looking for something to eat and don't have a lot of free time, it's probably best to avoid downtown. If you do decide to check out the harbor, stay RIGHT BY THE WATER. If you go a mile or two up from the harbor area, you will be in the scariest place I've ever seen. And I've accidentally driven through Compton before.

wow, i can't believe all this hate. you guys must either not know where to go in the city or haven't been down there in years.

there's plenty of nice areas in baltimore and they're getting nicer. in fact, many people who grew up in the suburbs of b-more and are now in their 20's are moving or have moved downtown - including myself. The 3 most recent sales of rowhomes on my block were for $930,000, $500,000, and $400,000. You'd be an idiot to pay those prices for a sh*t city/area.

Serious crime is essentially contained within the drug trafficers, and areas they frequent are easily avoidable. as with any city, don't go near MLK blvd.

Check out the following neighborhoods if you want some good meals and brews. I wouldn't even recommend stopping by the harbor. It's the tourist center of the city, and chains are most prevalent there. Baltimore has a lot more to offer than the Ruby Tuesdays/Cheesecake Factory/Fuddruckers/etc of any random, faceless suburb. If you've seen a suburb, you've seen White Marsh. Here's links to restuarants/bars in neighborhoods you should check out:

Federal Hill
- Dozens of bars are great restuarants. I like Thirsty Dog, Ropewalk, Nichiban, Blue Agave

Canton
- Mahaffey's, Cohberns, Nacho Mama's, Helen's Garden

Fells Point
- Red Star, Pazzo's, Talay Thai, Max's on Broadway, Wharf Rat

Mt Vernon
- Brewer's Art (amazing Belgium house brews, huge bottle selection, great food/atmosphere), Belvedere 13th Floor, Owl Bar, Kawasaki, Thai Landing

The Red Brick Station at The Avenue at White Marsh (minutes from where you will be staying) is a good restaurant that brews there own beer on site. One of the appetizers is seven small glasses of different beers so you can sample their beers without getting completely hammered. Red Brick Station

There is a big outlet mall (Arundel Mills) very close to BWI that has some restaurants nearby and they have a food court.
I used to live in Silver Spring closer to DC. There is a good Thai restaurant in Bethesda.

Btw, the Block of lore is a thing of the past. Up to about 20 years ago it really was the whole block, and then wrapped around the corner onto the next street some. Now it's down to about 4 bars and a toy store. And the ho's are still complete skanks just as they always were.

I used to live in Baltimore city. My parents ran a restaurant there and we had bulletproof windows. It's definately not the best of places to wander around on your own.

In college, I was part of a group that visited the homeless in Baltimore every weekend to pass out sandwiches and even the homeless people tried to start fights with me because they were tired of eating the same food day in and day out.

I love the restaurants in Arundel Mills... we go almost every weekend just to catch a movie at Muvico and to dine at Chevy's Tex-Mex. Currently, I live in Silver Spring and Bethesda....both with a lot of nice restaurants, but far from the White Marsh area.

First off BWI is about 1 hour from whitemarsh.
2nd between white marsh mall and the avenue you should be entertained.

If you're looking for a beverage and probably a live band, Bayou Blues is where it's at.
For food just look around. 1sikbITCH put up a good list of what's at the ave.
