Anyone ever been surprised by their attachment o an inanimate object?

So we are starting to get read for a trip and I'm not taking my original pair of ecco shoes. I was surprised to find out that this bothered me slightly.

For the last 5 years they've been on every business trip with me along with every vacation trip, going to numerous countries and I don't even know how many miles traveled and walked. They've been worn for everything from the dress casual workplace to the muddy, freezing rain and snowy trek in Iceland.

Sadly they are just not comfortable for long periods of time anymore even with new inserts so I can't justify the luggage space for them

Um...nope. The closest thing would be my mtn bike, but I will have no issue turning it over in a couple years for a new model.

I can't think of another "thing" that I own that I have any real attachment to.

Came in expecting another Fleshlight thread.

I have an old running hat that I know I should replace but I can't quite bring myself to throw it away. I'm not sure why really, but I always give it another week of life.

I have this beautiful Hello Kitty toaster. I am just waiting for the liberals to finish transforming America so we can be married.

i just went to the florida keys and forgot to bring my damn snorkel gear bag with me. when i pack, i have to put my fins in my checked in suitcase since they are too big to fit into my carry on. but i put my mask/shoes/snorkel in my carryon, along with my wifes gear. and i usually throw this mesh netted bag into there too that you carries all of this gear.

well i forgot to throw that bag into my luggage when i went to the keys. i went on 2 snorkel trips and it was a pain in the ass trying to just carry 2 sets of fins/masks/snorkels and then my shoes. i have the kind of fins that you wear water shoes with and it straps around them. it was really an inconvenience since we were there with our 11 month old too and had all of his shit to carry around with us as well.

first time this has ever happened in a dozen+ trips with this gear.

Unlike my wife, I have no attachment to objects I own. The other day we were going through some things and she wandered across a small photo album I had from my late teen years. I kept a single picture of my first cat and just tossed the rest. It surprised her for some reason.

*shrug*

I don't think it's emotional attachment to items, but I'm starting to feel more guilty about waste and just throwing things in the garbage. I wish there was an easier way to recycle different things, as I'd get rid of so much stuff.

I just bought new socks, and I've had an unexpected aversion to throwing the old ones away. I've kept quite a few as scrap rags for cleaning and other stuff, but there's just so many I don't want to throw them in the trash for some reason. Shirts and pants can be donated, but what to do with socks? I wish I had a cotton recycling bin.

I used to have an emotional attachment to my first car and even up to the bitter end of it's death I didn't want to get rid of it.

Other than that, no particular attachment to my possessions. I have some tendencies of hoarding but it's usually things that I'll actually use (not something like newspapers lol)

I realized a few years ago that, despite some flaws, I absolutely adore my NES Advantage joystick.

[edit]

I never had the Advantage as a kid.

Yes, I have some toys I had when I was a kid. I saved them incase we had a child. Seems unlikely we'll have a young one now but I can't imagine throwing them out.

I read this out of sequence as the page loaded, so seeing the sentence starting with "came in" made me take a second glance.

Sick bastard. A man and a waffle iron is where I draw the line.

I'm more or less like this. I try to minimize waste. Old clothes are donated, or become rags, and everything possible is recycled, or burned for heat in the winter.

I'm attached to some of my stuff. I left my entrenching shovel on a job, and was (lightly)stressing about getting it back. Got it today, and was very happy. Never mind I have four or five more in various states of disrepair :^D I also really like my axe. I found it ~20 years, and it's been my main tool ever since. I guess I'm attached to my tools. I've spent a lot of time picking and maintaining the "perfect" collection, and wouldn't like doing it again.

You seem like a guy who would be attached to his axe 🙂

I have the first PC case I modified and the first nice case I bought sitting on a shelf in the garage. They've been gathering dust for at least 7 years, but when I went to take pictures and Craigslist them I realized I don't want to get rid of them.

I know I'll get rid of them someday.

I have to move on, but having a hard time with the plane.

We've been across the country 3 times with it, up to Alaska twice, many times north and south out west. So many memories attached to it.
