Has anyone encountered the phenomena of images being stretched up and down on LCD monitors, when the (digital) DVI cable is used ?

I installed a Viewsonic VX900 and an ATI Radeon 9000 PRO. When using the analog VGA connector all is fine and all controls are able to be used.

When connecting with the (digital) DVI cable, the images are distorted on the vertical axis, in other words, UP and DOWN, while the horizontal is fine.

Significantly, the screen size and shape adjustment controls are grayed out and unusable with the DVI cable, although the brightness, contrast, etc. are ok.

I have spoken, at length, with a Viewsonic tech support person and it would seem to be the video card. I was told that the ATI 7500 and ATI 8500 had problems with Viewsonic LCD monitors and that those problems were fixable.

I have not been able to make contact with ATI, in Canada.

Any thoughts ?
 
Yes, it occurs at any resolution. After speaking with the tech support person at Viewsonic, and doing a bit of analysis, I have every impression that it is a matter of the video card (ATI Radeon 9000 pro).

I have never encountered anything like it, and some folks on the board may have some insights and/or clues.
 
I have something close to this, as a question of my own. This is a bump for a valuable response potential.
 
Try going to the advanced display properties. Click the options tab there's an alternate dvi mode and a reduce dvi frequency button. Try checking those and see if anything
happens. Should be 1280x1024 otherwise it'll be stretched out.

My own system uses an analog Nokia 21" analog, but the person on whose system I installed this would have this DVI box, presumably, after my having installed both the Viewsonic LCD monitor drivers, and the ATI 9000 card drivers. And, obviously, this DVI would, hopefully, then show up in the Control Panel on her system. I will check this out as soon as I can get to her system.

This is fascinating, I had no previous exposure to this option and, indeed, the images are stretched out with the DVI cable in use.
I had certainly tried setting it to 1280x1024, but I had not checked any DVI option box.
I will see how this works as soon as I can. Thanks mucho.

PS ? all of the systems I am dealing with are using Windows 2K. There isn?t any chance that this DVI control panel option is only available in Win XP, if that is what you are using ?

PPS ? it is interesting that in at least 15 minutes with the Viewsonic Tech Support, this option was never mentioned, but rather the direction of attention was towards the ATI video drives being faulty.

It is that in Win2K, (and or particularly with my own Analog monitor) I do not see the DVI options, at all. They also use Win2K, but my having installed the ATI 9000 drivers, Win2K will have "adopted" the new options for DVI selection, in the Control Panel OPTIONS section, as you so helpfully reference.

My remaining curiosity on this one specific point is as to whether this is a Win XP only function or if it will also be found in Win 2K, when I get to thier system. (Thier system, with the Viewsonic LCD and the ATI 9000 card and Win 2K)

I have no problems with my lcd being distored using dvi.

I run a GT4Ti4200 with a 23" lcd.
