That's per month. The article is making it seem tame but everyone I talk to says their monthly cost basically doubled. Mine was around $80 for me, now $160. Some people are paying way more, especially families. Looking into a wood stove. I normally DIY stuff like this but I think I will get an estimate for a pro install and hope the insurance gives me less trouble if it's fully certified.

$160 fake valueless CanadaBux sounds like a deal to me. I started using my heat pump system a lot more after getting a few too many $300+ natural gas bills (real USABux too)

Average increase is 160 per year, for your bill to be double it would have to be around 160 a year no?
mine went up about 15%

until Russia is beaten to a pulp, there is nothing that can be done about high energy prices.

Hmm, the article says the rate will be $0.38 per cubic meter? I am in California, last month I paid $44 for 14 therms (in US units). If I did the conversion correctly, that is about $1 per cubic meter (rates are higher in winter). Probably 50% is fees/ditributions charges/taxes. Your gas is pretty cheap. I need to install a heat pump...

160 is the average yearly increase.

When we lived in CA and had PG&E for natural gas, $200+ winter gas/cooking/water heating bills were common. (as were $300+ monthly electric bills for AC. (and NOT from PG&E, but rather, a cheaper PUD type of service.)

I don't understand how you could be using so much gas, especially in the summer.

we have equal monthly payment plan to make the bills more uniform over the year. so pay more in summer and less in winter. About 25 dollars is for the water heater rental.

Water heater. I have a basic gas one and they are super inefficient. Time to look at switching that for something better.

But also equal billing so it kind of evens out the bill throughout the year instead of paying like $300+ in the winter.

We putin a pellet stove last winter. It's been great...so far.

Yeah those are nice too though I do like regular wood as it's basically a free resource and available everywhere for free or cheap. With pellets you're still relying on a supply chain etc. Though pellets tend to be cheap too, unless everyone starts switching to heating that way.

What would be really cool to set up is a rocket mass heater, but I don't think that would be a go in a regular residential area. Too custom.

That 38 cent is probably just for the supply, you need to add in all the other stuff.

Might do that, still deciding on options. All the good ones all seem to be around 2-3k so think I'll just have to bite the bullet. Kind of debating between tankless, condensing tank, or heat pump tank. They're all in the same ballpark and have their own pros and cons.

there is no reason to keep 50ga of hot water 24/7 when you are only going to use it maybe 30 min a day.

pretty sure that is bulk. did you buy it online?
Nah, we get ours from an ace hardware in town. There's gobs of suppliers though, from lowe's/home depot, to local co-ops. If you have a trailer you can just haul it around yourself, but most will do deliveries for a modest fee. I recommend something sheltered, as while they are bagged, they're useless if they get wet and I don't take chances with winter.
