Wait, did he say that will be available Holiday 2007? Why announce it in January if it won't be ready until next year? Trying to steal Apple's mindshare with iTV I guess?

Wow, I've never watched Bill Gates speak before. It's a good thing he's rich b/c he just oozes social ineptitude.

E3 is dead. :p :D

No, it is not. Look it up on wikipedia; that explains the whole story as far as I know.

It is dead as we've known it. It is going to be an industry insider event from now on.

There's something new called "E for Everyone" or something like that that is one of many that are trying to replace it.

It's working fine for me, but I had to use the 100k speed to get motion video.

will the 'wallpaper' be on mounted monitors or projected? It would seem impractical if everytime you are near it, there would be a bright shining light hitting you in the eyes.

Anyone care to summarize why vista is going to be bad ass? What's home server going to do? Any good 360 updates?

Nothing much announced here.

IPTV will be coming in Fall. They say to the 360 but it is a lie. Maybe to Vista from which you can stream video to the 360.

Some new Vista features that will totally eat a laptop battery becdause the CPU will be running 50% all the time.

They showed some other crap like cooking in the dark and other crap that isn't very useful and will cost too much money for anyone to afford.

Microsoft made sure to mention that having IPTV on the Xbox 360 would give IPTV providers an edge over their competitors. There was no mention of it on the PC.

If you think about it, the only real thing preventing the 360 from functioning as a full-fledged DVR is the hard drive space.

and inputs for your digital cable. because as much as IPTV is neat, what's it going to cost, as most people already have other methods of HDTV (and Tivo's).

why the hell isn't the full thing up yet... it was broadcast live, should have been recorded at the same time... so it should take that long to put up dangit!

Ars has a decent summary of the home server. The most interesting 360 update was about IPTV. The rest was stuff we had already heard (people on PCs playing people on 360s).

Windows Home Server

Microsoft's chairman then officially unveiled Windows Home Server. Announcing that "the home is personal again," Gates touted Windows Home Server as the ideal solution for homes with multiple PCs and for people that want their data available everywhere, all the time. The software giant worked very closely with HP during the development, and the first Windows Home Server device?the HP MediaSmart Server?will ship from HP some time during the second half of 2007.

Windows Home Server provides automated backup for all PCs connected to the network and can share files from PCs, Zunes, and Xbox 360s. It also provides remote access capability. "You don't need to think about volumes and other devices," said Gates. "It's plug and play?the software automatically sees the new storage and moves the data around."

Along with HP, Intel, AMD, and Quanta are building hardware reference designs for Windows Home Server.
