My present system is still a KT133-based with Duron, PC133, etc... ugly

I have XP1600, 256mb PC2100.... and waiting on nForce2 for the core, where are you?!

i can't seem to find any information anywhere about when these boards are going to be out. I am wanting to get the dual-channel version without integrated video. I'll probably get a cheaper version with integrated video to upgrade the parents.

Dual channel DDR is really worthless for AMD platforms right now. Athlon XP's @ 133 Mhz FSB (266 double-pumped) simply do not need it. The only advantage to dual channel DDR on the nForce2 is the feed the integrated GF4MX video.

Lynn Computers actually has some Epox nForce2 motherboards listed, but with no prices or due dates.

I e-mailed them and they said that Epox nForce2 would probably arrive in November.

So...

It sounds like nForce2 is a little ways off, as the guys from Epox over at AOA Forums have said that they will be first with an nForce2 solution, and now Lynn Computers is saying probably by November.

I just want to say that waiting for actuall production nForce2 reviews/product is very crappy, since I know a couple of people who would like to build now, but I keep telling them to wait for nForce2.

After all, the only thing that will be released after nForce2 will be KT400A, and that isn't worth waiting for.

Man, I hate waiting...:(

I've been watching these boards also, the nForce2 SSP chipset specifically. This chipset really does have a great amount of potential. Since the KT400 boards have, so far, been disappointing, I've been looking for an alternative, and this might be it. I'd like to see some user reviews of nForce2 boards before I buy one, but I'm not sure how many people will have one around New Year, which is my time frame for purchasing. If the nForce2 disappoints also, I'll try to find a KT333 Asus A7V333 or an Epox 8K5A2.

The 8x AGP bus on the SPP models obviously won't be necessary. Neither is the Dual Channel DDR memory architecture, since a single stick of Corsair XMS3000c2 would have enough bandwidth for even the 2800+ with some to spare. USB 2.0, IEEE 1394, and good sound are important features, but the two KT333 boards above offer those. Both chipsets will also support the 333MHz FSB processors that AMD is manufacturing now also. The performance, stability, and overclockability of the board are what I will be looking at. If the nForce2's exceed the KT333 in those areas, then that is the bottom line. One good feature unique to the nForce2 I have heard about is that the PCI and AGP buses will be on a clock independent from the FSB clock. Therefore, there will be no need for PCI/FSB dividers anymore as the PCI and AGP bus speeds will be constant at 33/66.

From where I am now the performance gain will be huge.

Current sys: Asus P3V4X, P3 700 @ 933*, 512MB PC133 Kingston ValueRam, Radeon 8500LE, SB Live! 5.1, WD800JB, Win 2k Pro.

Looking at: nForce 2 or KT333 MB, AMD 2400+, 512 MBx1 Corsair XMS3000c2, Radeon 8500LE, SB Live! 5.1, WD800JB, Win 2k Pro.

Peace.

I'm waiting so I can retire my old nForce 1 system to my sister. A new nForce 2 board should only cost slightly more than the old nForce 1s and she doesn't need a new computer right away. That and the feature set is impressive. It's a must wait.

JSSheridan- I think most have been waiting for nForce2 to come out, regardless if they are wanting to buy it or not.

I'm sure VIA will cut prices (letting motherboard makers do the same) right before nForce2 comes out or right after.

I too am waiting on nForce2, except for the one with integrated everything. Its integrated video will be more that enough for builds like my godson needs, and, like nForce1, should be very stable.

As for performance gains, I've got you beat: K6-3+ 550, 256MB of Mushkin RAM (mixed) at CAS 2, Matrox G400DH 32MB SGRAM, Philips Rythmic Edge (when it gets here from eBay), Quantum Fireball Plus LM 15GB, Win XP Pro. :)

DainB- If she doesn't want it (your nForce1 board), I'll gladly take it off your hands (for free that is:)).

Yes, still waiting, as I have been for several months. Only thing keeping me from looking elsewhere is that no one offers a cheap integrated powerhouse solution like Nforce2 does/will! But it does piss me off the way they are handling this vaporware! I am still with my k6/400 overclocked to 420 w/Voodoo3! Brings Starcraft to its knees when I run winamp at the same time. I need to upgrade badly, and have for several months. If this thing appears by the end of the year, for < $150 , I will buy it. By the way, this new memory terminology confuses the crap out of me. What memory should I buy for an nforce2 system? PC2100? PC2700? PC133?!? I have no clue what the numbers mean anymore. I know you should buy 2 sticks vs. one (ie two 256s instead of one 512MB) but thats it.

I'll wait and see how things shake out with it after the end-users have tested versions of it from several board makers and done it with various hardware configs and OS's, if the performance, stability, on-board graphics, and Price live up to the hype I'll start building systems based on it.
