There's a reason why I will never pre-order a game that has no track record.
Yea, after playing through the SP and a little bit of MP, I can safely say the game is shit.
The SP starts off decent enough... it feels like HL2 in nearly every way, just in a new setting. HL2 mixed with COD, if you will. Quickly after that (I say quickly, because the chapters are short), the game plays like your standard COD game... you know, the one where you're ALWAYS following the same guy, yet you do all the work. You'll quickly learn that enemies have laser precision and will shoot the moment you peek out. Nothing new. What is annoying as hell, is when you believe you've cleared everybody, there's some sneaky ass enemy camping in the corner of the house you just entered resulting in an instakill.
You miss out on some of the action between the fighting, because your NPC buddies always need to out front and center, and you're always in the back. They will fight you for cover, even though it's obvious they do jack shit to help you.
On to the story (don't worry, I won't spoil anything). It's an interesting premise... how America would look and react if we're the ones being occupied by an enemy force. And it starts off pretty decent... you get a good feel for it, but the story just falls flat. You're hunting out fuel depots and tankers for very little reason other than to advance the game. There's so much potential for a good story, but that was squandered.
As far as the MP:
It's got a few decent ideas going for it. You earn BP throughout the battle for spotting, assisting, killing, etc. And you can spend that accumulated BP on vehicles or airstrikes. It's a neat idea, and it's surprising balanced well.
However, what's even more surprising, is how unbalanced the basic gunplay is. As far as I can tell, the weapons are hitscan and there's no ballistic model. Meaning, when you snipe across the map, the bullet will hit where your crosshair is. That's not a big deal in a game like COD where the maps are small and confined. However, it's a HUGE deal in a game with large maps with long sight lines like Battlefield. In other words, playing as a sniper is easy, and thus servers are absolutely populated with snipers. I wouldn't care so much about the snipers if they actually had to work for their kills and adjust for bullet drop, elevation, etc.
Not only that, every gun is laser accurate (even SMGs), and there's little sway while ADS and walking at the same time. Players will drop in two to three hits with most weapons. Sniper Rifles: 1 hit if chest or above, Assault Rifles: 2 hits, SMGs: 2-3 hits.
But yea, I was really excited for this game, but it's turned out to be disappointing in just about every way.
