I'm online now, and it doesn't have my original list, but it does have the contacts I added earlier before it went down the last time.

Up again, no contacts... :(

Sometimes you have to sign out and then back in several times for this stuff to take effect; I don't have the slightest idea why, but it worked for me.

I have been able to logon w/o any problems, but all my contacts are gone. Strangely, my friend didnt lose any of his contacts and when he signed in, I got a Add New Contact box. My guess is that the older accounts lists arent up just yet, or so I hope

It worked for me earlier (11 or so this morning), but now it's not working any more. I tried to get my friends to switch to Yahoo Messenger, but they won't :(
Is it not working now for anybody else?

If Microsoft/MSN acknowledges the problem, why isn't there anything on their own website (messenger.msn.com) saying so??

I'm kicking myself now, I knew that before I attempted to logon I should have made backup copies of my MSN Contacts (unless there is no local file and it's solely on MSN's severs which is total BS). The worst part is I happen to like MSN Messenger because it automatically checks and notifies me of new Hotmail e-mails, and doesn't appear to be as much of a resource hog as ICQ is.

Does anyone know IF and WHEN our contact lists will be restored?

i have a dozen users (administrative morons) who use it for inter-company communication (chatting about worthless crap im sure) and ALL of thier contact lists are gone. Mine is fine, as is my bosses. Stupid MSN, stupid free messenger, shoulda pushed for them to use ICQ :(...

I imagine no one lost their contacts.

MSN just screwed up somewhere along the line. I'm sure they keep backups, since there is no way to save your contact list locally. (stupid isn't it?)

I have ICQ, but for some reason MSN works a LOT better for me, and more of my friends are on it. Not only that, I can check my hotmail messages too.

ugh.

It's still down. Damnit.

It still is down here, too. But what really scares me is that they want to make your Windows log-in use passport. Then what happens if the passport server goes down? You can't log in. :|

Since they're moving to this .NET application services thing, and .NET revolves around PassPort (afaik), then I'm sure there will come a day when you log in to everything (including Windows XP 2006 or whatever is out then) with your Passport.

Well I don't know if this is good or bad, I can't logon to MSN right now. Perhaps they're in the process of restoring?

Perhaps Windows will be totally open source, free, efficient, stable and not infringe on people's privacy?

Relax, notice how I said Perhaps? Ever hear that song Quizas, Quizas, Quizas? It's beautiful.
