I've used many media players in the past, but nothing beats the simplicity, feature rich, compatibility of Gomplayer. Just tried the Gom Encoder last night and it's very simple and fast to use.

One problem I've encountered was with VOB files. I tried encoding it to AVI file using Gom Encoder and there is no audio to be heard. Video looks good but no audio.

Without the .info file the audio usually doesn't play only the video. You need to convert the whole dvd to avi.

i use gom because the time stretching is very well implimented.
seems to have better quality audio quality during time stretching as well.
smplayer does it as well but the voices are less distinct, hard to make out, it just isn't as good. good for podcasts/audiobooks and videos, can really crank through some stuff fast. even longer youtube videos, just download them before and play through gom.

dunno about vobs, one thing i don't use it for is dvds/vobs.

any dvds i have converted to avi or mkv work fine though:p
