Anyone else turned off by how 'petty' the whole political process seems to be?

Rather than have a healthy discussion of the important issues and the candidates positions, it seems that 95% of all we really hear about is how one or another candidate misspoke, changed their opinion from years ago, has a screwed up family, etc. (From BOTH sides)

All the bickering, petty insults, and tearing down of the opponent just turns me off from the whole process.

Historically speaking, has the political process always been this way? This is only second election where I've really kept in the game the whole time, but the negative tone to the whole process is a bit stale.

Am I alone?

It is f!cking ridiculous. All this talk about non-issues and bullshit.

There are a few genuine issues that people should care about, but instead, they are blinded by stupid and bite the hook of the whole bickering and semantics game.

Exactly, I can't believe the entire RNC speaker list used the podium as a pulpit to launch attacks, instead of present ideas.

You're no better blowing smoke out of your ass all the time about republicans.

One of the most famous incidents involving our Founding Fathers was the duel in which Aaron Burr killed Alexander Hamilton. What is not widely known is the trigger for that duel: Mr. Hamilton's assertion that Vice President Burr had an "unnatural relationship" with his daughter, Theodosia.

Things haven't changed much in 200 years.

The lefties are freaking out over Palin that is why things have gone to hell in the last week.

Prior to her announcement we were debating the issues with a few petty personal things here and there.

The problem is that Palin isn't the 'right' kind of female. Just like Thomas wasn't the 'right' kind of black.

Look at the crap on this board the last week. They are in full panic mode.

I think from a fair and balanced point of view, that America has always flirted with fascism. From Attorney General Palmer in the 1920's to tail gunner Joe in the 1950's, Nixon in the 1970's, and the beat goes on as we belatedly woke up. I think much of the rancor is now driven by the Newt Gingrich contract with America where D=bad and R=good. The subsequent years may not have proved D=good, but its sure done a wondrous job of casting doubt on R=good.

I certainly hope we can move on in 2008 and say we are all Americans.

Worse, but things were already bad.

How many threads about Palin do we have now?
I think this makes about one thread for each resident of Wasilla...

Always. George Washington regularly got his ass ripped right up and down by Benjamin Brache (sic) in his Philly newspaper, BIG TIME.

I agree it's gotten to be a complete joke. Seems every election year it just gets worse. Then they wonder why so many people want nothing to do with politics.

I think authoritarianism would be a more accurate term for your citations.

Not surprising. Look at the left wing blogosphere and their Bush assassination movie that they masturbate to.

Not all the blame, just most of it, at least for the last 7 years. People like Jerry Falwell existed, after all.

When did those men spew personal insults traitor-in-chief macros and call for the death of the leader of this nation?

Not to say I didn't expect it, but this thread itself is just a perfect example. Both parties are guilty, but all the stupid bickering just makes me want to keep from getting involved. Its not just here, it seems to be everywhere.

What are you looking for? In this current campaign what would you consider "stupid bickering."

I agree it has gotten really bitter this year. So many young people hate Bush understandable. They also have really connected with Obama so they are online trying to help the cause. It gets really bad when Obama faces a little challenge. It got really nasty when Hillary turned it around. It got real nasty the last week with palin. Lots see her as a threat because how much she has energized the conservative base.

Outside the internet it would be talk radio that gets really nasty at times. I have heard lots of what I would call complete BS against Obama by talk show hosts. I think lots of it was jealousy the democrats found a new young leader with lots of charisma. They are much less nasty this week now that they found their "Obama".

I just hope the bitterness will stop after the election but it won't. The losing side will spend the next 4 years hating on the winning side.

I do admit it is damn entertaining this year. I have gotten many free nights of awesome entertainment. The melt downs on both sides are so fun to watch.
