Anyone else think Jack Black is talent-less hype?

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't get your panties in a wad at my question either.

All I've seen from him is some fairly lame songs that are mildly funny but nothing fantastic. Then his acting? God, now that's hard on the eyes. Anytime he is in person or in his movies he always acts the exact same way: Sarcastic melodrama. ALWAYS. It's soooo painful to watch. It seems like being a fan of him is trendy kind of like razor scooters.

He's funny, but in a limited scope (as you pointed out). He had some great lines in High Fidelity, but pretty much plays that same character in every single movie.

Of course, so did Chris Farley. So does Adam Sandler, David Spade, Jim Carey, Chris Rock, etc.

Yeah, he only did well for the part because he got his ass killed. :D

Anyways, I forgot that I liked High Fidelity as well. I guess he didn't used to be that bad, but now he's all over the place and not funny at all. Have any of you seen Shallow Hal? That was the worst movie I've seen in a loooooong time.

You'd think producers would have figured out by now that movies that bad need a healthy shot of gratuitous nudity to keep the audience interested. Geez....

I'm with you on this one. He's always reminded me of one of those guys where if he wasn't a celebrity, people would be SERIOUSLY questioning their sanity and possibly have them commited. The guy acts sillier than a 4-year old child on a sugar rush. I sometimes think the same thing about Adam Sandler, although not to the same extent. And I say that because that's not just of Black's acting, he seems to act this way EVERY time I've ever seen him interviewed. Either he's got one of the most consistent on-camera nutso personalities ever, or he's plain loco. Move over Andy Kaufman.

In 2000 or so somebody showed me a collection of shows Tenacious D was in... I googled and I think it was an HBO series titled Tenacious D... at the time, never having seen him before it was really funny....

My impression is he's a cult figure that has been co-opted by big E(ntertainment Industry).... they'll burn it out and throw it away as soon as the profit falters...

~~edit
basically he's like rain on your wedding day....or maybe a free ride when you've already paid...

If he were completely void of any talent, he probably wouldn't be famous and this thread wouldn't exist. :)

There's also the other side where it'll be the "hip" or "cool" thing to hate him.

His acting is so-so.
His songwriting is great! I'm not just talking about funny lyrics, musically, the songs are also very good. He wrote a lot of the music for Mr. Show as well, and a lot of the litlle operettas in Mr. Show are nothing short of brilliant (esp Jeepers Peepers and Farmer's Daughter).

I agree with you on all those except Jim Carrey.

Agreed, Jim Carrey is a very versatile actor. Too bad he is so cast-typed, otherwise we could see his true talents.
