Anyone else think GoFlex is a joke?

This has been around for months, I know, but doesn't it seem odd to the rest of you? They say this is a good thing because whenever your drive gets an outdated interface you can just swap the cables, but what about HDD speed advancement? What about when SATA gets outdated? What about when SSDs are used for mass storage? The biggest question I have is, what is stoping them from coming out with GoFlex 1.1/2.0/2.1/3.0/3.1/ ect. It just seems silly to me. Marketing BS at it's best...

well, the current goflex drives are all SATA 3Gb/s, and the drives inside the enclosure are hardly going to cap out the interface. it makes sense right now but in the future they will obviously have to upgrade the enclosure design as well if they want to keep up with things. as it is you can get the drives shipped with several interfaces out of the box as well, so its not like you're stuck with only a USB 2 drive out of the box. i think most of the ones we have at frys are all USB 3 out of the box now anyway. sure, it's definitely a marketing angle, because they make a ton more profit off the cable to swap out than they do selling another drive, but it does benefit customers who want to frequently use their drive on different interfaces, or upgrade it later, without integrating all those interfaces into a single drive

I agree, this seems like a bunch of marketing phooey. I'll stick with WD. Like they never "market" 🙂 Bring on external SSD's. Cheap ones!
