FuseTalk is good because the board is so big. Hard uses vBulliten and their server goes down more often than Nebor.

I wonder if they both have equal hardware....

Their forum goes down so often because they couldn't manage a forum if their lives depended on it. DVDTalk forums use Vbulletin and they are larger than HF and rarely have problems. There are plenty of large forums that use Vbull and don't have anywhere near as many problems as the hardforums do.

Fusetalk isn't perfect, but then again, what is?

It's better than other things I've used

Meh, I can't say I've seen significantly better, but I can clearly see show FT could be improved. Each version seems to be a grater disappointment. :(

Plus Fusetalk has supported custom avatars for a long while now. It's just that AT chooses not to use that feature.

Fusetalk has plenty of issues. But most of the crap I hate about it is just the way it is implemented on AT. I hate the way quoteing works, that line that denotes a sig, the avatar graphics, all the wasted space, the colors, how attach code works, and most of the emoticons (especially roll eye). I hate the wasted space so much that I'm going to mention it again.

Ok I feel better now.

Anandtech uses the Beta version of Fusetalk. We are the Pioneers with arrows in our back!

BTW I know squat about programming so I haven't the faintest idea whether it's poorly programed or not.

There are a few things I've seen in fusetalk that would make me ashamed if I programmed it. The main one being that when an exception occurs, we just see the thing right on the screen. Even the WoW forums, which have a bug for every line of code, trap (probably log) it and show a more friendly message.

It seems highly scalable, especially given the heavy load on the AT forums. I don't think it's poorly programmed, but it certainly does have a few issues. Luckily Jason and co. seem to be constantly making improvements.

There are a lot of simple features in other forums that Fusetalk doesn't have for whatever reason. But all in all it works fine. I'd like to have an option that when I reply, I go back to the message list and not the topic I was just viewing. Since I just replied to it,. my post is the latest and I know what I just typed.

Hmmm... I'm not sure if I've used vBulletin, but it looks like a souped up phpBB to me, and fusetalk is wayyyy better than phpbb.

I just think that such a "premier" message board software should have a leg up on the free alternatives, (phpBB, etc..), or lowe cost, very powerful software like vBulletin.
Granted, this software handles a LOT of traffic - but couldn't the others given the same support hardware?

No one in Off Topic has the power to fix any of this. If you want to suggest fixes or report perceived problems with Fusetalk go here: http://www.fusetalk.net/suggestions.cfm . Good luck!

Careful, OP. Back in the day, Jason used to take criticism constructively and use it to his advantage, making the next copy of FuseTalk seriously kick ass --upto and including FuseTalk 4, it just kept getting better. Then something seemed to happen with Jason. This new craptastic version seriously went down the sh|tter and all he does is ban people and bitch at them for their criticism. If enough people bitch about it fast enough, something *MIGHT* get done about whatever someone at FuseTalk just fvcked up in the current release, but it's rare.

FuseTalk (both the company and the software) just aren't user friendly anymore. :(

The funny thing is that a lot of that stuff USED to be implimented. It's been removed for... no reason, apparently.
