Oh, when I was in Asia, the Coke over there did not have the sweetness and "peppiness" as Coke in America.

America rocks yo!!!!! :)

The idiots that say America is this and that just need to do everyone a favor and move the fuck out!
Says the guy trying to subvert the nation state through encrypted communication. Because free people need to protect themselves from their government, right?

Silly rabbit. Even the Founding Fathers knew the government could not be trusted. Were they not right? Social contract, as far as I'm concerned HAS been breached. But that still doesn't mean we are like China, Laos, Iran, Cuba, Vietnam or other shit hole place. Am I right? Am I right? :p

There's a lot of ground above the worst the world has to offer. Blind jingoism allows us to creep towards the bottom, rather than rise to the top. If you're the best, there's nothing to fix, right?

I swear whenever I drink coke from a fountain in a restaurant or fast food joint that it just isn't 100% the same as the coke I buy at the store and keep in the fridge. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Literally everybody has experienced this.

The flat sugar water. The carbonated no-syrup soda water. Diluted with too much water. I've had waiters bring me diet when I ordered regular!

Except with Pepsi. :( They actually make higher quality Pepsi in Mexico then they do for America. What the hell is the deal with that?

Coke is the same. The main difference is sugar instead of corn syrup. Glass helps too :)

I worked at a pizza delivery place where the fountain was adjusted to be strong to compensate for the melting ice.
Dr. Pepper in glass is the only way to get the flavor just right.

Depends on the restaurant and type of fountain that they have set up, as well as how busy the place is. Since you're pouring it over ice, the ice has the ability to water it down, if the ice has been sitting there for hours and is half melted, and the soda from the fountain is coming out warm. That leads to a watered down mix. I've been to a few places that seem to have it just right. A lot of places use those little CO2 tanks; and they seem to undercarbonate the soda. Some places use those really big tanks - about 5-6 foot tall, 24" in diameter. They tend to have better carbonation; probably anecdotal though, since the sample size of places I'm aware of is pretty small.

People spoke highly about sodas with "real" sugar and I did try a few glass bottles of Coke made in Mexico when they were on sale at Kroger for $1/bottle. They were good but I did not see they were worth the extra premium comparing to US made Cokes.

Definitely they taste better in cans than anything else.

A 2 liter is different, especially after the first pour. They go flat quickly.

A plastic bottle is most definitely a different taste.

Wat. It costs something like 30cents for a 20oz worth of syrup. Drinks are pretty much the profit margin at most fast food restaurants. Hence why most of the meal deals cut you a deal on the fries if you order with a drink.

If you want to get the most bang for your buck you skip the drink and order a la carte without sides, depending how much certain places markup for that.
When I worked at mcD's in the 90s it was more like a nickel. Manager said the cup was about twice the price of the actual soda...didn't matter, assistant manager was still pissed when the coke tech would come in, he had to go recalibrate all the machines after the tech "fixed" them.

Saw a paper somewhere that analyzed the sugar composition of soda in sucrose sweetened vs. HFCS sweetened sodas, and found the distribution to be identical. The soda is acidic enough and sits around long enough for the sucrose to hydrolyzed to HFCS anyway, so there's no benefit from the type of sugar added.

Most places don't have the combination adjusted properly.

Worse than fountains are those Coke freestyle machines. Nothing tastes good out of those. And what idiot designed the ice dispenser. You end up getting splattered with liquid unless you tilt your cup just right.

Put the ice in first. Just like a regular machine.

Problem is that the soda/pop/soda pop/soft drink/coke dispenser is usually still dripping from the last fill up.

Regardless, those machines produce the worst tasting soda/pop/soda pop/soft drink/coke.

Wife prefers fountain for some reason. Probably because she is a dirty commie.

The only soda I drink is soda water. There is no difference between fountain soda water and bottled soda water.
